While the world eagerly awaits news of some sort of Dino Crisis revival from Capcom, a modder has found a way to incorporate dinosaur horror into the recently-released Mega Man Legends 3, though) to the enormously successful Resident Evil remakes, it's clear that for Capcom, what was old is new again.

Now that the iron's hot, so to speak, fans are hoping that Dino Crisis, one of Capcom's beloved forgotten franchises, might see a return via either a remake or a full-on sequel. The first Devil May Cry similarly abandoned horror in favor of wall-to-wall action. Unfortunately, the series stalled out with the poorly-received Dino Crisis 3, which did nothing to advance the plot beyond DC2's legendary cliffhanger ending. The series has been dormant ever since, barring a few non-canonical cameos here and there.

While the rumor mill has always had its fair share of rumblings regarding a Dino Crisis revival, modder Darkness Valtier on NexusMods didn't feel like waiting for Capcom to announce something official, so they took it upon themselves to mod dinosaurs into Resident Evil 3's recently-released remake, complete with a Regina-inspired reskin for protagonist Jill Valentine. Check out a video of the Dino Crisis mod for Resident Evil 3 through Darkness Valtier's YouTube channel below:

The mod is still in its early stages, and the dinosaur models are a bit wonky. Rather than looking like classic Jurassic Park-style raptors, the enemies look much more like small Tyrannosaurus Rex-like creatures with oversized heads. Also, the mod causes problems with progression through Resident Evil 3, since the replacement of zombies with dinosaurs causes some rooms to become imable. Still, it's early days for the mod, and if Darkness Valtier sticks with it, it's a sure bet these issues will be ironed out with time.

Fans have waited a long time for a proper sequel to Dino Crisis 2, and rumors have been circulating that Capcom's next remake along the lines of Resident Evil 2 and 3 could be Dino Crisis, though there are also rumors strongly suggesting Resident Evil 4 could be the next Capcom horror classic to get the remake treatment. Hopefully, within the next several years, Dino Crisis will return to its rightful place near the top of the pantheon of Capcom's most valuable franchises, but until then this Resident Evil 3 mod is the closest thing around.
