Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose DLC is now available, and it gives the Winters family closure after the ordeals they've gone through because of the Mold. While it hasn't been stated whether Rose or Mia will be appearing in future titles, it might be best to let their stories end with Shadows of Rose. This allows Resident Evil to avoid a problem that the franchise tends to fall into rather often, and that's having characters show up in titles long after their story is complete.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Resident Evil Village and the Shadows of Rose DLC.]By the end of the Resident Evil Village DLC, Rose has confronted horrors which have led to her accepting her powers and ing Chris' team to continue fighting against biohazards. Ending the DLC this way leaves the possibility for Rose to return with Chris in a future title, but Rose might not be the best choice to return as a leading character in a full game rather than a DLC. Her powers could take away from the horror aspect, and the time skip required for her to be the main character limits which characters from previous titles could make an appearance.

Resident Evil Has A Problem With Overusing Characters

Capcom should adhere to its decision to end Rose's story with RE Village: Shadows of Rose and allow other stories to take the stage moving forward. Otherwise, players could end up with another character like Chris, who has appeared in so many RE games that it's left him with an inconsistent character. His role in the fight against viral outbreaks changes from game to game, along with his appearance and personality.

While this could be explained as his character aging, it can instead feel like Capcom isn't sure what it wants for his character, and the frequent changes can be confusing for players. It also takes away opportunities for other characters to appear in games, such as Jill Valentine or Claire Redfield who haven't been in recent mainline games beyond Resident Evil remakes. It would be better to let the Winters' story end as intended and not bring them back after giving them closure with Shadows of Rose.

Ethan's journey to find Mia and the sacrifices he made for his daughter helped bring Resident Evil back to its survival-horror roots. To continue the franchise's momentum, it would be better to continue forward with more contained stories instead of the global threats of RE5 and RE6. Even if players want the Winters to return, it might be better for the franchise for Capcom to stick with its decision to move onto other characters for Resident Evil 9 and beyond.
