many great Resident Evil characters, one in particular sticks out like a sore thumb.

That character would be Hunk. Despite appearing in numerous Resident Evil games and spin-offs, he's only been in one game canonically and mentioned in another. He was supposed to be in another Resident Evil game, as seen in the initial trailer, but he didn't actually appear, disappointing many fans. Hunk's lack of canon appearances seems unjust for such a fan favorite that comes across as a badass, and an appearance in Resident Evil 9 as a side character or villain would be a perfect return.

Hunk Was A Beast In Resident Evil 2

The 4th Survivor

The only canonical appearance of Hunk is in Resident Evil 2, both the original and the remake. He appears in a bonus game mode called The 4th Survivor, which is ironic, considering future games prove there were more than four survivors of the Raccoon City Incident, including Ada Wong. Appearing in the flashback sequence with William Birkin in the main story, Hunk must reach the helipad or the Raccoon City Police Department's front gate to escape with the precious G-Virus sample.

Resident Evil’s Most Underrated Game Deserves Better, & I Know How A Remake Could Fix It

Resident Evil remakes have done a lot to improve aspects of iconic games, but the next remake should take the most flawed entry in the series.

The mode is incredibly difficult to complete, especially in the classic RE2, and it proves to be a long gauntlet. You feel like a badass, just like Hunk, when you've beaten it and escaped Raccoon City. However, after Hunk flies away in the helicopter, this is still the last we have physically seen the character in the canon.

Hunk was poised to be an important character, as he received his own epilogue section in the original Resident Evil 3. These epilogue files highlighted what happened to the characters after Raccoon City's destruction. Hunk still saw further appearances after this game, but all of them were non-canon.

Future Resident Evil Games Largely Abandoned Hunk

I Still Can't Get Over The Revelations Tease

Hunk didn't physically appear after Resident Evil 3, but he was mentioned in Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, with an in-game file showing what he was doing on Rockfort Island. This remains the last thing we know about Hunk. After Code: Veronica, he was relegated to a bonus character or a fixture in games that took place during the Raccoon City Incident. To be fair, this was arguably when he became a fan favorite.

30 seconds in, you can see Hunk shooting a pistol, and his distinct red vision on the mask makes the character's identity clear.

Hunk made his Mercenaries debut in Resident Evil 4, in which he was an awesome playable character. His custom TMP was exceptionally fun, but the character became most famous for his Neck Breaker melee move. This devastating attack was an instant kill on everything, including the Chainsaw Sisters, making him a perfect fit for the Village level. He reappeared in Mercenaries 3D on the Nintendo 3DS and the RE4 Remake.

Hunk also appeared in the non-canon Operation Raccoon City during the first level and the often-forgotten but great RE game Umbrella Chronicles, which retells the 4th Survivor scenario. However, when Resident Evil Revelations got its first reveal trailer during E3 2010, it appeared that Hunk was finally returning in a canon game that takes place after RE2. 30 seconds in, you can see Hunk shooting a pistol, and his distinct red vision on the mask makes the character's identity clear.

Hunk was a playable character in Raid mode in both Revelations 1 and 2 but didn't appear in the campaign.

Hunk did not show up in the final game, at least in the main story. This disappointed me a lot, and the marketing ultimately felt misleading. In fact, that initial reveal trailer has a ton of stuff that didn't appear in the finished product. After the indignity of this cut appearance, Hunk deserves a comeback, and Resident Evil 9 would be a perfect time to do so.

Hunk Must Return In RE9 In A Major Role

The Character Deserves To Be Brought Back

According to rumors, Resident Evil 9 may see the return of Jill Valentine, who canonically last appeared in the CG animated movie Resident Evil: Death Island, or in Resident Evil 5 if you focus only on the games. The character has been gone for a long time compared to all the other main protagonists, like Chris, Leon, or Claire. If the rumors are true, there's no good reason not to bring the Grim Reaper back as well.

5 Years Later, Resident Evil 3 Remake Still Doesn't Live Up To Its Potential

Resident Evil 3 could have been an all-time great remake like other RE games, but five years later, it still leaves a lot to be desired.

He's a fan-favorite character that people love to play with due to his sweet melee moves, and a return would be a nice surprise, especially as he's probably aged so much since 1998. He could potentially be revealed as Hunk later on, and not right away. A ing role, or even as a side villain, would be a great fit for the character. If he's not playable in the main story, Hunk has to be playable in an extra game mode so that people can once again gracefully break necks in a Resident Evil game.
