The Resident Evil Village has a playable Chris section where he fights alongside his Hound Wolf Squad in the village. Ethan perishes during the events of Resident Evil Village and his dying request is for Chris to protect his daughter, Rose. The epilogue of the game shows a teenage Rose, who mentions that Chris is still alive, having seemingly kept his promise to Ethan after all these years. The Resident Evil Village DLC will follow Rose at this point, but it was revealed in an interview with Gamer (as translated by Dusk Golem on Twitter) that it was originally going to be about Chris.
Chris Redfield Will Be Playable In RE Village's Winters' Expansion
Chris is confirmed to be playable in the Resident Evil Village Winters' Expansion DLC content, as he will be in The Mercenaries: Additional Orders mode. The original intention was for the story DLC in the Winters' Expansion to follow Chris after the events of Resident Evil Village and his declining mental state, due to the guilt he feels over what happened in the village. The team ultimately decided to focus on Rose's more psychedelic story.
Chris is one of the few remaining characters from the first Resident Evil who is still alive as of Resident Evil Village. As such, the fans have a strong connection to him, so his final fate will be a huge moment for the series. A DLC focusing on Chris in mental distress, rather than fighting hordes of monsters, might not have been positively received by the fans. The Resident Evil Village DLC's story could be important to the future of the franchise, so Chris' guilt about Ethan's death could be saved as a plot point for Resident Evil 9, but not used as the central focus of the game.
