Resident Evil Village is getting a new third person mode in its Gold Edition which can be tested in a 60-minute demo. This model of demos has been used before for the remake of Resident Evil 2 and for the initial release of Village, being great for giving players the chance to experience a few aspects of the overall gameplay and feel how the game works before it releases. And this new, time-limited, free demo will allow players to experience a few aspects of the main story of the game in third-person, a major change from the perspective adopted by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Village.
Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition is set to release on October 28th accompanied by the Winters' Expansion, which will introduce several more features to the game, including new additions like Lady Dimitrescu to the Mercenaries mode in Village, the aforementioned third-person mode for the main storyline, and the Shadows of Rose DLC expansion. While first-person-mode was present in both Biohazard and Village, the third-person option returning in the Gold Edition harkens back to the perspective popularized by Resident Evil 4. Wanting a third-person mode for both games, players developed mods and other tools to use for a proper third-person experience, which is now being officially implemented in Resident Evil Village.
The gameplay demo for Resident Evil Village Gold Edition became available on October 20 at 4 PM Pacific time, and is able from the proprietary digital storefronts on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC via Steam. Just like previous RE Village demos with timers, players will have a limited time to experience the game in third-person - one hour. According to the Resident Evil website, players are able to halt their progress by quitting out of the game, with the 60-minute timer pausing until Continue is selected from the menu.
Village's Gold Edition Demo Includes First-Person Too
With the Gold Edition for Resident Evil Village releasing a week after the demo goes live, there’s little time to experience the new third-person perspective coming as part of the Winters' Expansion. Even those who own Village will be able to separately the third-person demo, which may help in deciding on whether the Winters' Expansion is worth a purchase. Though playing as Ethan in the demo likely won't give much of a feel for Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose expansion, players can test out the new third-person mode for the main story, witnessing the changes made to Ethan’s animations throughout gameplay and what was altered from the original first-person mode.
While most will be attracted to the demo for the opportunity to try the new third-person mode, it more or less serves as a demo for Resident Evil Village Gold Edition as a whole. The demo lets players switch between third- and the original first-person options, so anyone whose curiosity may have been piqued by the latest version of Resident Evil Village now has the opportunity to give the game a test run. Capcom has unfortunately not specified how long the demo will be available for .
