A VR and motion controls mod from Praydog makes the scares of RE4 received a VR port for the Oculus Quest 2 in October 202; interestingly, a patch added similar to the game's Mercenaries mode several weeks after launch.

The eighth mainline Resident Evil entry featured no such virtual reality  but managed to raise the bar in other ways. RE Village takes place after the events of 2017's acclaimed RE7, once more dropping players into the role of Ethan Winters. But instead of carefully navigating a backwoods Louisiana property, Ethan finds himself exploring a remote village somewhere in Eastern Europe. Vampires, werewolf-like creatures, and a host of other gothic horrors stalk the isolated settlement, creating an experience unlike anything else in Resident Evil games of the past.

The build in question also boasts motion control , complete with features such as hand-tracking, physical melee attacks, roomscale movement wherein Ethan moves with the headset, and physical weapon aiming. Eurogamer tested the VR and motion control mod in the following gameplay video, which showcases how much creepier RE Village can be with a few peripherals thrown into the mix.

Horror games seem to rest at the heart of many intriguing virtual reality experiences. Given the positive reception surrounding the VR versions of both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 4, it should come as no surprise that RE Village seems to have similarly translated well to the more immersive style of play. Hopefully, Capcom itself will eventually add VR to the newer RE title in an official capacity.

Whether or not Capcom will ever unleash VR for Resident Evil Village remains to be seen, yet developers do have something else up their sleeves in of new content. The publisher confirmed as much during an E3 2021 presentation, teasing fans with news that its internal team had entered development on post-launch RE Village DLC. No concrete information about the add-on has surfaced as of yet.
