WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for The Righteous Gemstones' series finale!Baby Billy’s character development throughout The Righteous Gemstones season 1’s cast, Walton Goggins’ Uncle Baby Billy continued to make questionable decisions when it came to weighing the priorities of his duty to his family and the prospects of fame and fortune. Frequently choosing the latter led to some of the biggest conflicts and mistakes of his life, with that dilemma fittingly serving as the basis of his season 4 story.
Throughout season 4, Baby Billy grappled with wanting to make a famous hit series, but knowing that it took him away from his wife, Tiff, and their two young children. Baby Billy even took his dedication to the series so far that he decided to play Teen Jesus (“Teenjus”) himself, further isolating him from his family. However, in Baby Billy’s ending also concluded his larger arc about his struggles with fatherhood.
Baby Billy Choosing Tiff & Their Kids Redeemed His Mistake Of Abandoning Harmon & His First Wife Back In 1993
Baby Billy Finally Chose To Fully Commit To His Family
Baby Billy’s struggles with being around for his family didn’t begin with Tiff, Lionel, and Aimee-Leigh Jr., as they date back to his first family that he abandoned. The Righteous Gemstones season 2’s “Interlude” episode explored Baby Billy’s heartbreaking decision to abandon his wife, Gloria, and young son, Harmon, at a shopping mall back in 1993. Baby Billy felt that he didn’t have the financial means or the personal strength and will to Harmon and Gloria, so he left them and never looked back.
Abandoning his wife and son haunted Walton Goggins’ Baby Billy for the next three decades, but it wasn’t until Tiff became pregnant with Lionel in season 2 that he finally decided to try to reconcile and make amends with Harmon (Macaulay Culkin). After Harmon got permission to punch Baby Billy in the face, the father and son departed on good , but it was clear that Baby Billy still had doubts about his ability to be a father and provide for his family – not just financially, but also in regards to being physically present and emotionally ive.

I Loved The Righteous Gemstones' Series Ending, But I Still Think Danny McBride Made The Best Finale 2 Years Before
The series finale of HBO's beloved comedy series The Righteous Gemstones was well done and satisfying, but I think season 3's ending was even better.
However, by choosing Tiff and their children over Teenjus or some other money-making, fame-seeking scheme, Baby Billy ultimately avoided repeating the same mistake he had made with Harmon and Gloria. Plus, since he maintained closer relationships with the Gemstone family in the years after Lionel’s birth, Baby Billy fostered a stronger system around Tiff and his kids than he did while raising Harmon. It took over 30 years, but Baby Billy’s ending proved that he finally came around to making the right decision for his family and children’s best interests.
The Righteous Gemstones Never Followed Up On Harmon & Baby Billy's Relationship After Season 2
Harmon Was Never Seen After The Season 2 Finale
Although family is among the most important themes of The Righteous Gemstones, Harmon was surprisingly absent from the remainder of the series after his appearance in the season 2 finale. Even after Lionel and Aimee-Leigh Jr. were born, Baby Billy never mentioned Harmon again, despite there being plenty of opportunities for Walton Goggins’ character to reflect on his relationship with his first child. Even during bigger church events or family trips to the lake house, The Righteous Gemstones didn’t give any indication of whether Jesse, Judy, and Kelvin’s cousin received an invitation.
Macaulay Culkin and Walton Goggins are both slated to appear in Fallout season 2, their first reunion since The Righteous Gemstones season 2.
Considering Baby Billy’s ending in The Righteous Gemstones is all about his commitment to his family, it feels strange that he didn’t mention Harmon or at least their history in the finale. Had Macaulay Culkin’s Harmon returned or even been referenced at the end of The Righteous Gemstones season 4, Baby Billy’s story conclusion and redemption would have felt more complete. Regardless, the Danny McBride HBO show still gave a fitting, meaningful resolution to one of the series’ most beloved characters as Baby Billy quit Teenjus and finally settled down with Tiff and their kids.
