Jackie Chan offers a hopeful update on Rush Hour 4. Despite having denied his involvement in the fourth movie in 2019, the actor confirmed that he was in talks to make the movie in 2022. Directed by Brett Ratner and released in 1998, the first Rush Hour movie starred Chan and Chris Tucker as Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee and LAPD Detective James Carter, respectively. Ratner then directed the next two installments in the series, but hasn't directed a movie since 2014.
While talking to ScreenRant's Liam Crowley at the Karate Kids: Legends red carpet event, the action star offered an update on Rush Hour 4. Chan shared his enthusiasm for returning to the project and named a few other movies he would like to do, confirming that "the script is still going on." However, he stressed that he didn't know the specifics, but hopes that development moves forward soon. Read his comments below:
Jackie Chan: I don't know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We'll be old men doing Rush Hour.
ScreenRant: You want to do it, though?
Jackie Chan: Yes! And I want to do [another] Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Dawn. Shangai Noon, Shanghai Knights, and Shanghai Dawn. The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4
What Jackie Chan's Comment Means For Rush Hour 4
Rush Hour 4 Is Still In Development
So far, news has been scarce on the project. Ratner has exited Hollywood since 2018 after several actors came forward with sexual harassment and misconduct allegations. It's unclear who will direct the movie, but it sounds like both Chan and Tucker are on board to return as the dynamic duo in Rush Hour 4, which is set to explore a new mission.

10 Jackie Chan Sequels We Still Want To See, Including Rush Hour 4
With over 100 movies under his belt, Jackie Chan has starred in many movies that deserve a sequel. However, some need a sequel more than others.
Tucker has previously expressed his interest in reprising his role in the Rush Hour movie. Chan's enthusiasm for the project could mean that if things go well with the script and the studio, the movie could move forward very fast. However, his comments also imply a certain level of uncertainty around the project, with things being in the hands of the studios and writers. Lionsgate was reportedly involved in producing Rush Hour 4 with Ratner potentially returning as its director, but neither has been confirmed.
Our Take On Jackie Chan's Rush Hour 4 Update
There's Still A Lot Unknown About Rush Hour 4
Chan and Tucker are an iconic dynamic duo. Even though they have given fans three movies of action and fun, there's always room for another Rush Hour movie, especially since some aspects of the original 1998 movie haven't aged well, and so much has changed in Hollywood. With Ratner having not worked in the industry since his 2014 movie, Hercules, and the allegations against him, he is unlikely direct the movie.
Rush Hour 4 already faces a few challenges, and while I certainly want to see Chan and Tucker in another film together, it does sound like something that includes risk. In the end, it depends on how serious the studios are about reviving the classic series and getting the duo back together. Rush Hour 4 has potential, but whether it can truly be revived without the original creative team is something no one has the answer to yet.
