Warning! This post contains a PREVIEW for Captain America: Symbol of Truth #5In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Captain America: Symbol of Truth, Sam Wilson truly becomes Captain America with just one line, inheriting an important mentality from Steve Rogers that's just as important as wielding a shield. Having come to the nation of Wakanda illegally, Sam Wilson is trying to get to the bottom of a criminal ring that's smuggling vibranium. However, this new preview reveals that he's been caught by none other than King T'Challa's Black Panther.
In previous issues of Captain America: Symbol of Truth from Tochi Onyebuchi, R.B. Silva, and Julian Shaw, Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres' Falcon discovered a smuggling ring that seems to be dealing in vibranium. Having tracked the source to Wakanda itself, the newest Captain America attempted to work with the Wakandan government to find and apprehend the culprits. However, Wilson's request was denied for the sake of the nation's sovereignty. In response, Sam decided to undercover among the many American citizens seeking to relocate to Wakanda with brand-new visas.
Although Sam Wilson's Cap now knows Crossbones and the White Wolf are responsible for the smuggling ring and are planning a massive vibranium-powered attack to undermine both Wakanda and the United States, Black Panther isn't very happy with Captain America's intrusion into his nation. As such, the new preview for Captain America: Symbol of Truth #5 sees Sam and T'Challa duking it out in a brutal brawl. However, Wilson refuses to stay down, reiterating the most famous Captain America line from the MCU that has since made its way to the comics: "I can do this all day". Here are the preview pages and the synopsis for the issue:
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: SYMBOL OF TRUTH #5
- HOMELAND, PART 5
- It’s a showdown between Captain America and Black Panther, with the fate of two countries on the line! And when the dust settles, who will pay the price for Sam Wilson’s incursion into Wakanda? Meanwhile, Falcon uncovers a piece of evidence that changes the scope of the mission—and exposes the White Wolf’s ultimate motive.
While it's pretty cool that Sam Wilson has taken the classic Captain America line and made it his own, it should also be noted that his critique of Black Panther's suit and vibranium tech also bears a striking resemblance to Steve Rogers calling out Tony Stark's armor in the first Avengers film: "Big man in a suit armor. Take that off, what are you?". While T'Challa has his rebuttal just as Tony did, Sam still has the advantage seeing as how he's been able to hold his own while only wearing a jersey and some jeans.
At any rate, it's going to be very exciting to see how Captain America and Black Panther's latest fight will ultimately play out. One would hope that Sam will be able to get T'Challa to listen to reason and can get his help to take down their shared foes, even if he did enter Wakanda illegally. Either way, the full Captain America: Symbol of Truth #5 will release on September 28th.
