the Galaxy S21 FE last month, and there have been mixed opinions on whether its release was poorly-timed considering the Galaxy S22 series will be available to buy later this month. For those wondering if it is worth purchasing the Galaxy S21 FE, or if they should just wait for the Galaxy S22 series, here's a closer look at what's on offer.
The Galaxy FE (Fan Edition) name was first used in 2017 when Samsung relaunched the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 in select markets. Since then, the FE branding has been applied to more affordable versions of the company's flagship devices, such as the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, Galaxy S20 FE, and now the Galaxy S21 FE.
The Galaxy S21 FE is a toned-down version of the Galaxy S21 series. It has the same design as the standard Galaxy S21, but packs a larger display and a greater capacity battery. However, it does come with a downgrade in the camera department. the Galaxy S22 worth it?
The Galaxy S22 Is Smaller & Better, But Will Cost More
The Galaxy S22 will no doubt be a better phone than the Galaxy S21 FE, and in a number of ways. Based on leaks alone, the Galaxy S22 will have a more powerful processor and better cameras including an upgraded main sensor and telephoto camera. It was also reported that the Galaxy S22 will feature a glass back instead of the plastic rear found on the standard Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 FE. However, this isn't technically an upside, as plastic does have some advantages over glass.
Speaking of which, there may be other areas where the Galaxy S21 FE could prove to be the better device. For example, the 6.4-inch screen is likely to be larger than the standard Galaxy S22's rumored 6.1-inch display. Likewise, the 4,500 mAh battery is likely to be greater than the Galaxy S22's rumored 3,700 mAh battery. It has also been reported that the Galaxy S22 will 25W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging, which is also available on the Galaxy S21 FE.
Taking all of these differences into consideration, those who prefer the smaller size of the Galaxy S22, and don't mind paying at least $100 extra for a more powerful processor and better cameras should hold on. However, those fine with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE's processing power, which is more than capable and will handle most things thrown at it, can pick one up now and save some money in the process.
