Summary

  • Scarlet Witch's villain arc may be redeemed in Avengers: Secret Wars, rectifying a misunderstood plot point.
  • The prophecy in WandaVision stated that Scarlet Witch would destroy the world, not the multiverse as many assume.
  • A theory suggests that Scarlet Witch will be the destroyer of Battleworld in Avengers: Secret Wars, fulfilling the prophecy and redeeming her villainous turn in Doctor Strange 2.

One MCU theory claims that Scarlet Witch's death and villain arc may still be fixed during Phases 5 and 6 Avengers line-up.

One Avenger who was long theorized to be part of the team post-Endgame was Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. However, as of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' ending, the Scarlet Witch had turned evil, waged war on the multiverse to find her lost children, and subsequently sacrificed herself. This seemingly put an end to Scarlet Witch's MCU journey, though many have speculated the character is still alive somewhere. If this is the case, one MCU theory has claimed that her villain arc will be redeemed and a long misunderstood plot point of the Scarlet Witch will be rectified in Avengers: Secret Wars.

WandaVision’s Prophecy Stated Scarlet Witch Will Destroy “The World,” Not The Multiverse

Firstly, it is worth exploring the MCU's prophecy surrounding the Scarlet Witch that was introduced in WandaVision. When Wanda was revealed as the Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness read the prophecy from the Darkhold which heralded the mystical being. The age related to the Scarlet Witch is as follows, as read by Agatha in WandaVision's season finale:

“The Scarlet Witch is not born; she is forged. She has no coven or need for incantation. Her power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme. It is her destiny to destroy the world.”

Interestingly, since WandaVision's release, this prophecy has been somewhat misconstrued. Many have since subconsciously twisted the prophecy to read as though Wanda's actions could destroy the multiverse. However, Agatha simply said the Scarlet Witch would destroy the world rather than the endless worlds of the MCU multiverse.

Theory: The World Scarlet Witch Will Destroy Is Avengers: Secret Wars’ Battleworld

The specific wording of Agatha's prophecy in WandaVision is where the theory connecting Scarlet Witch to Avengers: Secret Wars lies. Avengers: Secret Wars is set to loosely follow the comic book run of the same name, pitting the Avengers against variants from across the multiverse in a realm dubbed only as Battleworld. This world was ruled by Doctor Doom, at least in 2015's Secret Wars comics, for almost a decade after the Marvel antagonist brought the warring factions that gave the planet its name under his control.

Eventually, Reed Richards arrived on Battleworld and fought Doom before being given the power of the Beyonder - the being whose power Doom used to create the planet - and destroying it. This could serve as a fantastic story for Avengers: Secret Wars, only with this theory placing Scarlet Witch as the destroyer of Battleworld. Agatha's words that Wanda will destroy the world could easily apply to Doom's planet, fulfilling the Scarlet Witch prophecy in Avengers: Secret Wars while redeeming her villainous arc.
