The iconic Scarlet Witch is finally reuniting with her god-level heroic son Wiccan and his husband Emperor Hulkling, in a new adventure that will test the limits of their love and loyalty in the Scarlet Witch #6. However, while Wanda may want to her son, she's actually about to be recruited by an enemy of his husband.
The Scarlet Witch solo series - from writer Steve Orlando, artist Sara Pichelli, and colorist Matt Wilson - has made huge strides in revitalizing Wanda Maximoff's role as a major Marvel hero, focusing on the powerful witch's redemption, personal agency, and her relationships with various of her extended and complicated family. Scarlet Witch #6 will focus on Wanda's need to choose between her pledge to help anyone who walks through her magical "Last Door," and her son Wiccan and his husband Hulkling, with ComicBook.com revealing two gorgeous covers - by Sara Pichelli and Peach Momoko - depicting Wanda battling alongside Billy. Enjoy the cover art and issue summary below:
FAMILY MATTERS! - Wanda's loyalties are tested when an enemy of the Kree/Skrull Empire falls through the Last Door desperate for help avenging their fallen comrades. Will Wanda honor the commitment she made to helping those in need – whoever they are – or will her love for her son Wiccan and his husband, Hulkling, triumph over all?
PLUS: A familiar figure appears at Wanda's shop…and it seems rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated. But does he come as friend or foe?
Wanda and Billy Have A Loving But Complicated Relationship
Wanda Maximoff and her sons Billy, the hero Wiccan, and his twin Tommy, the hero Speed, have had a complicated, contentious, but ultimately loving relationship that has slowly developed since Billy's debut in 2005's Young Avengers #1. While Speed is still an important member of the Young Avengers, his brother Wiccan has gotten way more page time since his debut, and has become a uniquely powerful magic whose abilities make him on par, if not more powerful, than his mother Wanda. Billy is also one half of one of the most beloved queer couples in Marvel Comics, with his husband Emperor Hulkling recently uniting the Kree and Skrull people under the Kree-Skrull Alliance, and working to establish continued peace in the cosmos. The gorgeous covers for Scarlet Witch #6 by Pichelli and Momoko reveal that this issue will finally reunite Wanda with her son Billy, and even shows her wielding Teddy's legendary Star-Sword, Excelsior.
Wanda's Solo Series Has Been All About Redemption and Family
Wiccan is far from the first member of Wanda's family to feature in Scarlet Witch, with her brother Quicksilver, almost-daughter Viv Vision, and sister Polaris all making appearances in the series, each one showing unique and beautiful aspects of their relationships, both past and future. It is no surprise then that Wiccan is making an appearance in Scarlet Witch - although it would be awesome if Speed had a cameo as well - and hopefully this exciting issue will leave Billy and Wanda's relationship even deeper and more meaningful. One day Billy is destined to become the Sorcerer Supreme and the nigh-omnipotent being known as the Demiurge, meaning he is going to need his mother's love and as much as possible.
Wanda Maximoff has been put through test after test in her ongoing solo series, and her next adventure with her son Wiccan and his husband Hulkling will be no different, as the Scarlet Witch must decide between love and duty.
Scarlet Witch #6 from Marvel Comics debuts on July 12, 2023.
