Summary

  • Scarlett Johansson's potential involvement in rebooting the Jurassic Park franchise could inject new life into the series.
  • Johansson's diverse range as an actress makes her a perfect fit for the Jurassic Park franchise, which has struggled in recent entries.
  • Audiences may finally see a strong, competent female lead in a Jurassic Park movie, with Johansson potentially leading the way.

Johansson's best non-Marvel movies have already demonstrated her incredible range, Johansson's starring role in 2021's Black Widow saw the actress once again tackle the world of the MCU, which further highlighted her expertise in big-budget blockbusters.

Despite returning to the MCU for Black Widow, many of Johansson's post-Avengers: Endgame works have seen the actress opt for smaller, more emotionally engaging films, such as Taika Waititi's JoJo Rabbit and Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story alongside Adam Driver. While neither movie was designed to break box-office records, they firmly solidify her as one of the industry's best working stars. However, audiences still clamoring for Johansson's blockbuster return might not have to wait much longer. Although details are still developing, Scarlett Johansson is in talks to lead the next Jurassic World movie.

Why Scarlett Johansson Is The Perfect Choice To Reboot The Jurassic Park Franchise

Johansson's star power and popularity among general audiences bodes well for Jurassic Park.

Johansson's potential casting as the lead in the next Jurassic Park installment is great because she's already developed a respectable body of work throughout the decades. Between her more mainstream work as seen in the MCU and her proclivities for independent dramas as demonstrated by Marriage Story and North Star, Johansson has already proven that she can excel at just about anything. Furthermore, recent entries in the Jurassic Park franchise haven't been doing too well critically, which further highlights why Johansson would be a perfect fit for the newer installments.

How The Jurassic Park Franchise Can Benefit From Scarlett Johansson's Involvement

The Jurassic Park franchise could cover new ground with a strong female lead.

Chris Pratt's Owen stares at a small dinosaur in Jurassic World Dominion.

Although Chris Pratt is one of the most beloved leading men working in Hollywood today, the Jurassic World franchise has grossed less money with each subsequent installment since his 2015 debut in the series. While there are many things that have gone wrong with the Jurassic World trilogy, its lack of a truly fresh and original protagonist likely has a lot to do with the franchise's recent reception. Even though Pratt's Owen Grady is a new character, he ultimately feels like a modern update of the franchise's previous protagonists, played by Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum.

There's yet to be an entry in the franchise with a strong, competent, female lead, and with Johansson potentially starring in the Jurassic World entry, audiences will finally see what that could be like. While Laura Dern, Julianne Moore, Téa Leoni, and Bryce Dallas Howard have all co-starred in Jurassic Park movies, they've existed primarily in a ing capacity. Scarlett Johansson's potential leading lady status in the movie could be exactly what the Jurassic Park franchise needs in order to prevent it from going extinct.
