The highly-anticipated trailer for the 2022 titled Scream, the fifth installment has been in and out of development for years now, though it only gained real traction within the past year. As original director Wes Craven ed away in 2015, the new movie will be helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not).

Plot details for Scream are still being kept mostly under wraps, though it is said the movie will follow a young woman as she returns to her hometown and is faced with horrific murders tied to Ghostface. The 2022 film boasts new cast like Jack Quaid and Melissa Barrera, though much of the excitement stems from the returns of stars David Arquette, Courteney Cox, and Neve Campbell. On top of that, there's the promise of many twists and turns. The filmmakers are going to great lengths to ensure the new killer's identity won't be getting out early; Scream reportedly shot multiple endings and even kept some cast in the dark.

Fans are eager to get their first look at footage from Scream, and while some lucky people will get to see it soon, others will have to wait a bit longer. The Prince Charles Cinema in London announced Thursday that it will hold a special 25th anniversary screening of the original Scream on October 11. It'll be a brand new digital restoration of the film, and those who attend will receive a free gift with their ticket. Additionally, they will be among the first to see the trailer for the 2022 Scream, as it will be attached to the screening.

Most likely, the 2022 Scream trailer will arrive online sometime after, though it isn't clear as to how long others will have to wait. With the movie set for release in January, Paramount, who is handling distribution, would be smart to release the trailer soon in order to drum up excitement. October is the ideal month for this, seeing as Halloween is just a few weeks away. Perhaps audiences will also get to see the trailer in theaters alongside, say, Halloween Kills; no better way to hype up a slasher movie than teasing it with another slasher.

It will be interesting to see what the Scream trailer even includes. Gillett said last month that it's been hard editing the Scream trailer because of how many spoilers they have to avoid. It seems likely that they'll take a more abstract approach, keeping plot details vague and instead focusing on the movie's overall tone. Though the franchise saw some diminishing returns over the years, there's renewed excitement in seeing how this next generation can breathe fresh life into the world of Scream. Hopefully, the next major update will involve the trailer itself.
