The new season features familiar figures like Jason and Brett Oppenheim, Chrishell Stause, Mary Fitzgerald, Emma Hernan, Amanda Smith, Chelsea Lazkani, Nicole Young, and Bre Tiesi. The new season also included some new faces, notably Alanna, who created one of the most controversial moments when she claimed ownership of Pioneertown, a Western community near Joshua Tree National Park in San Bernardino County in the Californian desert.

Alanna, a model-turned-realtor, was named as the new agent at the Oppenheim Group, and her work-focused attitude quickly stood out as she competed with Mary and Chelsea for a listing. However, after a relatively modest start to the season, Alanna revealed to her co-stars she and her husband were the owners of Pioneertown, a top-rated destination for tourists and locals, which once served as a film location for Western movies. Although owning Pioneertown isn’t controversial, Alanna’s ownership claim has been revealed to be dubious.

Being a new member of Selling Sunset and having to rub shoulders with already-made stars and affluent individuals, Alanna had to prove she belonged in that class. To impress her co-stars, Alanna revealed she and her husband “own a little Western town out in the desert called Pioneertown.” Clearly impressed, Jason asked how much it would cost to buy the town from her, to which Alanna replied, “You guys don’t get to know that. You can’t have it; it’s ours!" Although Alanna was able to command the iration of her co-stars, it didn’t last long.

Alanna's claims were quickly proven untrue when Pioneertown community officials released a statement vehemently denying her baseless claims and demanding a public apology to the town's residents and business partners. Apparently, out of thirty-five parcels in the Mane Street area of Pioneertown, Alanna and her husband own just six, less than 1% of the town. Alanna has since been forced to walk back on her statement of owning Pioneertown, apologizing for the confusion she caused (via People).

Due to her false claims about owning Pioneertown, Alanna's potential attention-seeking personality has become a talking point within the Selling Sunset fan base. Alanna ed the Selling Sunset cast with minimal experience in the real estate industry after being a model for more than five years working with brands like Tom Ford. After years of being the focus of attention, Alanna had to replicate something similar on the show. With no historic real estate deal to boast about, her bold claim about owning a whole town was the way to get some attention, and it worked.

In addition, Alanna isn't listed on the Oppenheim Group's website as an agent, raising further questions about the basis of her addition and intent on the show. Alanna's real estate license also appears inactive, which has prompted discussions that she might be a 'producer plant.' If Alanna's whole Selling Sunset debut wasn’t built on her interpersonal drama with co-stars or her real estate experience, it has to do with her seeking clout on the show.

In a Selling Sunset season built around interpersonal drama, especially the marriage troubles of Chelsea and Jeff Lazkani, Alanna had to build a narrative that highlighted her debut on the show. With fellow debutant Amanda Lynn stealing the show by revealing Jeff's infidelity, Alanna needed to top it. What better way to do that than to claim ownership over a whole town? Alanna's claims about owning Pioneertown were the perfect ruse for which even Jason fell.

During Selling Sunset season 8, Alanna capitalized on this, getting a whole episode dedicated to her taking her co-stars, including Mary, Amanza, and Nicole, on a trip to Pioneertown, the town she claimed to own. During the trip, Alanna took the girls to the desert and took them on a tour of the town and her home, "Cosmic Ranch." Alanna might’ve framed the trip as a fun getaway for the girls, but instead, it was a way to show off as the new girl on the block, which worked well until it backfired.
