Warning: Spoilers ahead for Severance season 2's finale! Before Mark officially completes Lumon's Cold Harbor project in Severance season 1's ending. Even though Mark, Helly, Dylan, and Irving reunited for a short time, the dynamic quickly changed after Severance season 2's Helena twist and Irving's firing.

However, for a brief moment in season 2's finale, Helly and Mark interact as if it's a normal day for MDR. While Mark focuses on the Cold Harbor project, Helly mentions that she's "trying to think of other place names besides Delaware" before saying she's come up with "Europe, Zimbabwe...and the Equator." When Mark and Helly first met, one of the questions Mark asked Helly was if she could name a US state or territory to which she replied "Delaware." Feeling nostalgic, Helly brings up Delaware again, as she and Mark start joking about the Equator.

Seeing as Innies don't have much insight into the outside world, Mark quickly asks if the Equator is some sort of building, making Helly consider that it could be a continent. The casual chatter between Mark and Helly soon ends as Mark can't delay the Cold Harbor project's completion any longer. When he does finish, Mark and Helly are met with a surprising celebration that features Mr. Milchick, a robot version of Kier Eagan, and a marching band from the "Choreography & Merriment" department. Using the commotion, Helly distracts Milchick to allow Mark to go on his mission, but before doing so, she tells Mark "See you at the Equator."

At that moment, one might think the Equator mention is just Helly's special way of saying goodbye to Mark. Not knowing what will happen with the Gemma mission, or the MDR team for that matter, Helly and Mark are acting like that moment in Severance season 2's finale could be the last time they ever see each other. Innie Mark has been grappling with his possible "death," with Helly's fate also in doubt with Helena and the Eagan family still calling the shots. By Severance season 2's ending, however, Mark and Helly reunite at what can be considered Lumon's Equator.

How The Equator Line Foreshadowed Mark & Helly's Fate In Severance Season 2

Helly Finds Mark At Lumon's Border Between The Innie & Outie World

Though it involves the death of Mr. Drummond, Mark manages to rescue Gemma/Ms. Casey. Outie Mark breaks Gemma out of the testing floor, but after using the elevator, their severed versions activate, meaning Innie Mark must finish the rest of the mission. With the alarm blaring and red lights flashing, Mark leads Ms. Casey to the exit door leading out of the Severed Floor. She goes back to being Gemma once walking through the door, but Mark doesn't follow when he sees Helly at the other end of the hallway, meaning they do see each other again at the Equator.

No matter what Mark wanted, the Innie version gets to make the ultimate decision, choosing between Helly and Gemma.

In a way, the exit door acts like an Equator between Mark's Innie and Outie world in Severance; more specifically, the world that involves Helly and the other that leads to Gemma. No matter what Mark wanted, the Innie version gets to make the ultimate decision, choosing between Helly and Gemma. He rescues Gemma, but instead of letting Outie Mark go with her, Innie Mark doesn't cross that dividing line and goes to Helly. She may not have viewed the location as Lumon's Equator, though it's clear Helly always intended to look for Mark if she got out of the MDR unscathed.
