All eyes were on Severance when its second season premiered earlier this year, and now executive producer Ben Stiller has mentioned that he can envision a video game adaptation. Severance began back in 2022, resulting in a long wait for season two, but it has been a distinct highlight of Apple TV's slate, though a video game spin-off hadn't ever been on the radar.

Stiller and Severance star Adam Scott spoke with Variety (via GamesRadar), where the pair were asked about expanding the show's universe to other projects, including spin-off shows. While Stiller said he has two spin-off ideas already, he also mentioned it would "be great to have a Severance video game." Scott followed up, espousing the merits of the idea: "I think it lends itself to one."

Ben Still & Adam Scott Both A Severance Video Game

It Doesn't Sound Like One Is In Development

Stiller has directed more than half of Severance's episodes, and Scott plays the main character, Mark Scout, so it's interesting to hear such integral components of the show agree that it lends itself to a video game adaptation, even if it sounds like one is not currently in development. They didn't seem to elaborate on the quotes aboveVariety's interview says they had exceeded their allotted time – but they both seem convinced that Severance can spin-off projects.

Stiller even scrapped season one character he was going to play himself. Apparently novel merchandizing isn't off the table either; Stiller and Scott want to produce Lumon-style keyboards, calling the props, "bespoke and specific to the show."

A show full of severed workers has proven to be one of the more fascinating narratives in recent years, and the idea could have a lot of potential in gaming. One character with two personalities provides a lot of story routes, but could also inform gameplay in novel ways. The show is so mundane at times that it's hard to imagine a Severance video game being too action-packed. My first thought was actually a management sim, where you oversee the severed floor as someone more integrated into Lumon's hierarchy.

Roguelikes could also serve as a point of reference if you play as a severed worker. You could be mapping the severed floor, starting over each day in a similar vein to the excellent Blue Prince. Such themes would also closely relate to Irving's story in Severance season two, where he provides important directions to his fellow Innies. Severance getting a video game adaptation would have felt unlikely prior to Stiller and Scott discussing it, but it's a very enticing prospect.
