2024 is gearing up to be the biggest year ever for the fan favorite Shadow The Hedgehog has expanded his story and appeared in games, shows, and other media across the franchise, including his own divisive spinoff video game, and has evolved into one of SEGA's most popular characters.

This year, Shadow, known as the ultimate lifeform, will lead a new platforming experience from the Sonic Team alongside his titular rival in Shadow Generations, a parallel story bundled with a new remaster of the commercially successful Sonic Generations. A couple of months later, the powerful hedgehog will make his big screen debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, voiced by none other than iconic action star Keanu Reeves.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a new experience from Sonic developers that will allow players to switch between two games, as they can revisit the exciting action of 2011's Sonic Generations, or play as Shadow in completely fresh levels, marking only the second time in the franchise that Shadow serves as the main protagonist. The single-player platformer will bring classic Sonic speed and gameplay to a new generation on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 25.

We already know that the team behind the game has some exciting DLC in store, as Keanu Reeves is set to voice Shadow in the Sonic X Shadow Generations 'Movie Pack' DLC for deluxe edition players on December 12. This will mark Reeve's debut as the popular character ahead of his anticipated role in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 later in December, the end of a trilogy that has redefined the franchise. The SEGA team launched a 'Fearless' marketing campaign earlier this year to celebrate 2024 as the year of Shadow in these major releases for fans of the hedgehog.

In 2020, Paramount teamed up with SEGA to adapt the Sonic the Hedgehog series into a live-action theatrical experience. Ben Schwartz was brought on to voice Sonic, and Jim Carrey starred opposite him as Eggman. Despite initial controversies, the movie was shockingly successful for a video game adaptation, spawning sequels and a spin-off series centered around Idris Elba's Knuckles. The next big move from the studios was to bring in Keanu Reeves as the perfect villain to end the Sonic trilogy, who was teased at the end of the second movie, leaving audiences craving a showdown between the characters.

The John Wick star is bringing Shadow's super strength and telekinetic powers with him, making the character an overwhelming force in the new movie.
