Sarah Michelle Gellar is ing Shannen Doherty on her birthday with a video from their shared celebration last year, mourning the loss of her friend. Doherty died of cancer in July 2024, with Doherty's best known TV and movie roles having been on the cast of Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210. Her death led to an outpouring of actors and people in the industry mourning her, including Gellar, who was a close friend of hers. Since then, she's continued to be ed for her decorated career, particularly through her memorable TV roles.

Now, Gellar has posted a video showing her and Doherty celebrating their birthdays together, reminiscing on the annual tradition the pair shared. Doherty's birthday was on April 12 while Gellar's is on April 14, making for a shared event where they would celebrate together. The Actors Were Close For Quite A Long Time

While Gellar was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doherty was on Charmed, the pair ended up meeting, having both been on shows produced by Warner Bros. Despite starring in very different TV series, they ended up becoming lifelong friends, having ed each other over the decades thanks to their long-lasting friendship. This includes when the late actor was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, with the diagnosis progressing to Stage 4 by February 2020. However, she still lived over four years after getting the life-changing diagnosis, having celebrated her birthday with Gellar in April 2024.

The actor's Instagram post shows how close the pair were, alongside how Doherty's tragic ing has impacted Gellar almost a year later. The deceased actor continued to star in movies and TV shows up until her death, her latest movie being 2024's Darkness of Man and her latest TV show role having been a cameo in Riverdale back in 2019. Gellar herself is gearing up for her role in Dexter: Original Sin season 2, but managed to take the time to honor her friend in the way they always honored their birthdays with one another.

Gellar's celebration of her and Doherty's birthday shows she's not going to stop honoring her friend on the day they would always spend together. Even after almost a year has ed, she's still paying tribute to the person she was closest to in her career, something that could become a new tradition whenever their shared birthday comes around. With the actors' lives being so shaped by their close friendship, it seems like Gellar is always going to honor her friend for the life they lived together.

Shannen Doherty will appear in two movies posthumously, those being How to Make a Deal with the Devil and Bukowski.
