San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and Screen Rant has an exclusive reveal from the collaboration. Focus Features is celebrating Shaun of the Dead with a Winchester Pub Pop Up at SDCC, and visitors will be able to play a Shaun of the Dead-inspired level from 10:10 Games’ co-op action adventure, Funko Fusion. Visitors to the Winchester Pub Pop Up will also be treated to a free can of “Winchester Plan” beer (guests 21 and over only), enjoy interactive photo ops, and hang out at a faithful recreation of the movie’s iconic pub.
Screen Rant is happy to reveal the design of a limited-edition print that will be handed out to Winchester Pub Pop Up visitors. The print, seen below, is a Funko-fied version of the original Shaun of the Dead movie poster, featuring Funko versions of Simon Pegg’s Shaun, Nick Frost’s Ed, and Kate Ashfield’s Liz. The Winchester Pub Pop Up is located at 520 Fifth Avenue in San Diego and will be open to the public July 25 to 27 from 12pm to 6pm and July 28 from 12pm to 4pm.
Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Revisit Shaun Of The Dead
Shaun of the Dead turned 20 years old in 2024, and while Shaun of the Dead 2 is unlikely to happen, the movie is worth a rewatch even two decades later. On top of being a great way to prepare for Funko Fusion, the zombie rom-com is still a tight, emotional, and hilarious film that paved the way for the future success of Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, and Edgar Wright. Although the three first found success making the UK sitcom Spaced, Shaun of the Dead introduced them to a worldwide audience that wouldn’t soon forget their unique voices.
Kicking off Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy, Shaun of the Dead was a strong showing of Wright’s smart, snappy directorial style. Quick cuts, visual callbacks, and smart foreshadowing made Wright instantly identifiable, and would go on to help the director find success on films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Baby Driver, and Last Night in Soho. Shaun of the Dead was a sign that Wright would only continue to find novel ways to blend style and substance in his future storytelling endeavors.
Frost, Pegg, and Kate Ashfield all shone in Shaun of the Dead, but Pegg went on to find the most success in high-profile Hollywood productions. From playing Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise to season 4’s Hughie Sr. (and with a Star Wars detour in the middle), Pegg turned his Shaun of the Dead exposure into lasting mainstream Hollywood success. 20 years on, it’s interesting to be reminded that one of Pegg’s most consequential early performances was as the well-meaning loser Shaun.
