A familiar, award-winning actor is set to the already iconic cast of the one and only Harrison Ford, makes the show worth watching, and it's about to get even better.
It was previously revealed that Back to the Future and Family Ties' Michael J. Fox would have a guest-star role in Shrinking season 3, a lovely full-circle moment for the actor and Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence, who worked together on Spin City in the late '90s. More recently, during a at this year's ATX Television Festival (via Variety), Lawrence let slip that Candice Bergen, five-time Emmy winner and star of hit shows and movies like Murphy Brown, Boston Legal, and Miss Congeniality, would also be ing Shrinking's third outing.
“He’s one of the greatest people I’ve ever met,” Lawrence said of Fox. “He’s one of my mentors. And man, what an inspiring dude, the way he’s living his life. So to get to have him back, working with him… I didn’t expect to have career highlights at this point in my career, and I was on set about 10 days ago watching Harrison Ford and Mike Fox, and Candice Bergen — oh, a spoiler!”

Which Character Will She Be Attached To?
Though Lawrence refrained from telling the ATX audience more about Bergen's role in the series, there are numerous possibilities. She could the show as one of Jimmy's (Segel), Paul's (Ford), or Gaby's (Jessica Williams) patients. For Jimmy, especially, a few of his patients have played a large role in the show's story and his personal development, so there's potential there.

Apple TV+'s hilarious and heartfelt series, Shrinking, has returned for its second season, and the psychiatrist comedy has already been renewed.
On the other hand, Lawrence seemed to reveal that the renowned actress had been on set with Fox and Ford, specifically, which could mean that her character is more closely related to Paul. Given the actors' ages, this would make sense. If the show creates a narrative link between Paul's Parkinson's diagnosis and Fox's role, Bergen could easily have a part in that storyline.

Though star-studded casts can sometimes feel like a marketing ploy, in Shrinking's case, it's the exact opposite. Every actor on the show fits their role perfectly, and because there's such a great balance of Hollywood legends, character actors, comedic actors, and talented newcomers, it never feels as though someone has been added to the show just because they could be. I'm sure the same will be true for Fox, who is always a pleasure to see on screen, and Bergen, whose legendary TV career speaks for itself.

Earlier this year, it was also announced that Hollywood heavyweight Jeff Daniels, star of comedy classics like Dumb and Dumber and TV dramas like The Newsroom, would the cast as Jimmy's dad. Other new additions include Nobody Wants This's Sherry Cola and One Day at a Time's Isabella Gomez. Whatever part the new cast are meant to play in Shrinking season 3, they'll surely fit right in.
