Bosun Wihan Du Toit has been quite the troublemaker on Below Deck Down Under season 3, but there are still signs he won't get fired on the current iteration of the hit Bravo series. Despite Stew Marina Marcondes de Barros before rejecting them both in favor of Deckhand/Stew Adair Werley.

Wihan's romantic adventures aren't the only reason he's getting a villain edit. He's also taken a relaxed approach to leadership, frustrating Chief Stew Lara Rigby and Deckhands Harry Van Vilet and Johnny Arvanitis. Johnny punched a wall because of his frustration aboard the Katina, and Harry was in tears, comforted by his boatmance, Brianna Duffield. Wihan wants to get Captain Jason Chambers on his side, and it looks like it might work.

Captain Jason Doesn't Want To Fire Another Cast Member

He Wants To Give Wihan A Chance

Wihan is walking on thin ice aboard Below Deck Down Under season 3, but he won’t get fired anytime soon as Captain Jason clearly doesn't want to fire another cast member. Despite Wihan’s shaky leadership and a mounting list of conflicts with Lara, Harry, and Johnny, Captain Jason seems reluctant to let another crew member go this early in the season. While Wihan has been called out for everything from lack of initiative to mishandling safety protocols, like the jet ski debacle, Jason appears to be taking his side in issues.

This isn’t Jason’s first rodeo when it comes to managing tough crew dynamics, and it seems he’s trying to avoid replacing his entire crew, especially after firing Sous Chef Anthony Bird. Instead of sending Wihan packing, Jason is focused on teaching him to become a better leader. Given how turbulent charter seasons can be, this more patient approach could backfire. However, it seems unlikely that Jason will fire him.

Wihan Still Gets The Job Done

His Leadership Style Is Different From Lara's

The clash between Wihan and Lara is the real problem, and Wihan won't get fired because he still ultimately gets the job done. While Lara's laser-focused perfectionism has her constantly fighting to maintain pristine service, Wihan takes a much more chill approach, which really grinds Lara's gears. Oftentimes, they're just goofing around while the interior team is still hard at work.

There's currently a power struggle between the interior and exterior crew due to differing leadership dynamics.

Wihan openly itted his team has plenty of free time and doesn’t need to help other departments. Unsurprisingly, that didn’t sit well with Lara or Chef Tzarina, who felt the deck team was coasting while everyone else picked up the slack. Wihan's deck team is operational, guests are getting where they need, and there haven’t been any major deck disasters, though the foam party caused some frustration.

Even though Lara's the one demanding perfection, it might be Wihan’s softer leadership to last longer on this boat. Captain Jason values balance, and while Wihan isn’t perfect, he’s adaptable, calm under pressure, and knows how to keep his department running. Wihan doesn't seem to be going anywhere, especially with Jason on his side.

Bravo Won't Fire Gary Or Wihan From The Franchise

They Cause Interesting Drama

At the end of the day, Bravo isn't going to fire Wihan from the franchise because he brings the drama. He's flirted with nearly every woman onboard the Katina and refuses to apologize for his mistakes. Wihan stands on business even when he's in the wrong. He's probably quite frustrating to work with, but ultimately, the entertainment value of Wihan's presence is too high. Now, he's going after Deckhand Harry because he called Wihan out for his lack of leadership. That makes for great TV.

Gary has denied all sexual misconduct allegations.

It's the same issue with Gary on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. He's a liability to the franchise and endangers onscreen and offscreen crew with his drunken antics. However, he's also incredibly popular and makes for entertaining television. Ultimately, Wihan's moody outbursts and conflict with Lara make him more likely to remain a fixture on Below Deck Down Under season 3.

Below Deck Down Under season 3 airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET and streams the next day on Peacock.
