Modding has been a beloved pastime ever since The Sims 1 was first available. Now, with The Sims 1 Legacy Collection, it is exciting to see that many of those original mods that people created in 2000 are still usable. These mods can range from giving more outfit possibilities to providing hacks to instantly upgrade skills and relationship bonuses. Of course, as is the case with any mod for any game, people should always be careful to make sure that their mods are coming from a reputable website and install mods one at a time to test for crashes.

The idea of modding a game has always been a bit controversial, even in a single player experience like The Sims. Adding certain mods that change the skill levels of a Sim or provide money can be seen as cheating. However, for other players, who may wish to focus more on the decorating or relationships or other areas of the game, mods can allow them to make the gameplay what they want. And, there are always mods that just change skins or other cosmetics in the game.

Every mod mentioned in this article has been tested and assured to work with The Sims 1 Legacy Collection as of February 8, 2025.

Adding a mod to The Sims 1 Legacy Collection is as simple as ing the mod and putting the file in the correct folder. For objects ending in the .iff extension, this is typically the EA Games/The Sims Legacy/s file. Other files will go in their respective folders in EA Games/The Sims Legacy/GameData such as the Skins, Floors, or Walls folders, depending on what the mod is for. Most websites will say where the file needs to be put to work effectively.

10 Invisible Chair Rugs Allow Sims To Sit Anywhere

Made By Damondamore on Simblr.cc

With this mod by Damondamore on Simblr.cc, players can make it possible for their Sims to sit on objects not typically used as chairs. Sims can sit on the edge of a bed, on the side of the bathtub, and more using invisible chairs that can be placed inside these objects. Unfortunately, there are also some problems with this, including the fact that players cannot see the invisible chair to move or delete it without trying to click randomly around where they think it was, and objects cannot be placed on top of it, only the other way around.

Another issue is that players cannot tell the Sim to sit on an invisible chair, but the Sim must decide that they want to on their own. Trying to click on it will only click on the object on top, such as the bed. However, it can feel much more realistic to have a Sim sitting on the edge of the bed to watch television. These invisible chairs are installed in the s folder for The Sims Legacy, just like any other piece of furniture.

9 Curtains That Open And Close Automatically

Made By Simlogical

This mod by Simlogical seems like something that should have been available in the base game, it just makes so much sense. These smart curtains can be selected to automatically open in the morning and close at night, or have the auto feature turned off, so players can have greater control over the timing. There are several curtain styles available, and Simlogical also includes instructions on how to recolor the curtains if someone wishes to, and there are several colors available for .

While many mods can do the same thing, these are based on actual curtains rather than being made from lights, which become bright when they close, and can be difficult when in a bedroom where a Sim would want to sleep. This mod fixes that, so at night it is still dark in the room.

5 Simazon Delivery Services For Food, Pet Treats, And More

Made By Damondamore on Simblr.cc

Many people in the world today are pretty reliant on a certain online shopping website to send them pretty much anything they need, and now Sims can do the same. With this mod by Damondamore on Simblr.cc, Sims can call Simazon Delivery Services to have things brought to their door. Getting groceries delivered is the most basic and useful for many players, although the mod is made to be much more than that if someone wants.

Damondamore states that creators can use the plugin to have the packages spawn virtually anything they want upon opening it, including a fire or monster if someone so desires. This takes a bit more ingenuity to achieve, however, so simply using the service for groceries works as well.

4 No Newspapers Please Shrub Keeps The Papers Away

Made By SomeSimThings

Newspapers in The Sims can be useful things, with the ability to help a Sim get a job or other things. However, having the newspaper come every day can sometimes become a bit tedious. Especially since Sims who don't to deal with this paper can end up having it become trash, which can invite bugs to come.

When looking for this object, one might assume it is with shrubs, but it is actually classified as an electronic item.

1 Super Improved Supersculpture Mod

Made By SomeSimThings

Although it can be seen as the biggest cheat in these mods, the Improved Supersculpture Mod provides a way for Sims to become the perfect versions of themselves. It includes ways to be used to max out several of the skills that a Sim needs, and even get money. Several of the options in the Improved Supersculpture mod can also help Sims make friends, or strengthen their ability to keep them through raising their personality and skills.

While some players won't want to take away from the gameplay of leveling up their Sim, other people find some of those tasks tedious and prefer to focus their attentions on other things. That is where this mod, and others like it, can help make The Sims 1 the most fun for every player.
