In one of the more baffling decision moves, fans were shocked to discover that the fourth mainline game in the series didn't allow Sims to use online dating when it proved to be such a popular feature in The Sims 3. Despite speculation that the system would eventually be added, players have had to resort to mods to fulfill their dating desires.

The range of activities is impressively varied as s can select from options like Specific Date for those wanting something series to a Blind Date for a more surprising evening. There's even an option for One Night Stands and Hook Up Calls for those more adventurous Sims just looking for some casual fun without any strings attached.

Dating In The Sims 4 Can Be Tough

Having removed the option to set up an online profile for dating in The Sims 4, characters looking to find true love will need to do it the old-fashioned way: Making an in-person connection. Sims can only initiate a date without someone else once they've reached an appropriate relationship level, at which point a prompt will appear that could potentially unlock romantic interactions. While such a system existed in The Sims 3, the process could be expedited by setting up an online dating profile.

The mechanic, which required the use of a computer, added another layer to dating as Sims could choose to lie on their profile, selecting traits and likes that may not necessarily align with what they actually desired resulting in more matches. Dates could often go awry once the lies were exposed, resulting in two very disappointed Sims. It's unknown why the system hasn't yet made it into The Sims 4 but given the amount of DLC released for the game, it seems entirely possible that it could still be added someday.

The Sims 4's dating scene may be in dire need of an upgrade so hopefully Maxis will be able to rumored to be The Sims 5. Announced in 2022, very little is known about the next game but reports suggest that it will be a next-gen reimagining of the entire life-sim genre. Fans are simply hoping that the base version releases with more content than what was offered at the start of The Sims 4's life.
