When it comes to player freedom and customization, The Sims 4 is nearly limitless - except when it comes to customizing your work outfit. While players have the option to tailor an outfit for lots of occasions from partying to just going to bed, when it comes to work uniforms, you're sadly locked into whatever outfit is associated with your Sims' current job role and title. Thankfully, a cheat code serves as a solid fix if you're looking to open up your options when it comes to workwear.

Cheats and The Sims 4 go hand in hand, so it's unsurprising that there's one to fix this oversight. While it's unclear if the developers at EA will make it possible for players to unlock and use different outfits for work as they see fit without the use of cheats, it's at least doable in-game with this workaround. Since The Sims 4 relies so heavily on debugs and cheats for lots of its playerbase, using a cheat code to unlock more possibilities for work clothes hopefully won't be seen as cheating the game!

Unlock More Clothing Options On PC

The first step to edit your work outfit in Sims 4 is to open up the cheats commands box and enter the correct code. This will force the game back into Create-A-Sim (CAS) where you can pick out a work uniform that might better suit your Sim and their personality. You don't need to wait until pre-work to do this, as your outfit will be saved for the next time your Sim goes to work. As you can see from the above screenshots, I set my work outfit while my Sim was snoozing. The full steps are as follows:

  1. Open the cheat commands by pressing Ctrl, Shift, and C simultaneously
  2. Type "testingcheats true" into the Search bar that appears on the top left of your screen, and hit Enter
  3. With cheats now live, enter "sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas" and hit Enter

Tips For Choosing Your Work Outfits In Sims 4

Customize Your Game Even More

A scientist backs off from an explosion in an Erlenmeyer flask.

Selecting your own work outfits for your Sims won't impact anything about their work performance, it's a purely cosmetic change, so while it could be fun to see what antics might ensue if you send your Sim for their hospital shift dressed as a bear, nothing will actually happen. While this is disappointing, Simmers are long-used to using their imaginations when it comes to roleplaying in the game.

If you're playing a Rags to Riches scenario, it might be fun to send your tired, stressed, and financially struggling Sims to work in a less-than-appropriate casual shirt and jeans, rather than the game-imposed corporate get-up. Alternatively, maybe your high-powered career Sim is feeling the pressure and might just end up in a bathing suit for a very Casual Friday.

If it's in theme with your current playthrough, you could even tailor outfits to suit the themes and moods: maybe on Wednesdays, your Sims wear pink. As with any Sims playthrough, what you do with the cheats is entirely up to you and your creative freedom. While EA hasn't formally introduced an option to customize your work outfits, it can at least be achieved through this simple The Sims 4 cheat.
