The threat of the Doctor Strange. The greatest ability a Skrull has is their shape-shifting and cultural assimilation powers, stealing the identity of someone and taking over their lives without anyone noticing. However, when covert-ops isn’t enough, the race of sneaky conquerors deploy their big guns known as Super-Skrulls, and this one is easily more super than the rest.
The Super-Skrull with magical abilities is known as Mystic Super-Skrull, a villain who made their first appearance in Captain Britain and MI13 #2 by Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk. In the issue, the Skrulls are seeking to take control of Earth’s magic and have secured a number of magical artifacts for that effort. The Mystic Super-Skrull pulls the magic from the artifacts and from the world, merging them into a mystic chain that fuels the villain’s strength. The Skrull division under the Mystic Super-Skrull's command set about attacking the UK, attempting to destroy Earth's magical realms and leave it vulnerable to the larger invasion.
Thankfully, a few issues later in Captain Britain and MI13 #4, Captain Britain manages to claim Excalibur and decapitates the Mystic Super-Skrull, neutralizing the world-ending threat the villain poses with the ultimate magical weapon. The evil sorcerer represented the gravest threat posed by a single Skrull, and its huge magical might made it a match for the average superhero, where elsewhere the Super-Skrulls gained victory by sheer numbers. Skrulls conquer entire planets in packs and only succeed through trickery, but Mystic Super-Skrull was a major threat who was even capable of empowering other Skrulls, and if not for the incorruptible magic of Excalibur, would have assuredly secured victory for the Skrull race over Marvel's magical realms.
The Mystic Super-Skrull is shown wielding all the power of Doctor Strange, but the villain’s appearance implies they also have the power of a number of other sorcerers. Mystic Super-Skrull has the body of Doctor Strange, the flaming head of Dormammu, and the horns of Loki. The villain has four arms with each set having a different look, implying the replication of other magical entities beyond the more apparent inspirations.
Only by being resurrected with a renewed connection to magic could Captain Britain take down this enemy, who poses perhaps the single greatest threat of Secret Invasion. Mystic Super-Skrull has the magical powers of a number of powerful sorcerers, not just Doctor Strange, and the villain became even stronger after merging countless Marvel artifacts into a single, powerful totem. While defeated before the conflict's epic final battle, the Skrull Doctor Strange proved to be Secret Invasion’s real ultimate threat, as it had the potential of conquering the world single-handedly, and vastly exceeded the other Super-Skrulls shown attacking Earth's heroes.
