That rather vague description sounds a lot like the plot of Mick Herron's novel Spook Street, which seems to suggest that each season is tackling a single book.

Along with the announcement that Slow Horses season 4 was happening, audiences were given the smallest of hints about what the episodes would be about. Season 4 will "open with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House". That rather vague description sounds a lot like the plot of Mick Herron's novel Spook Street, which seems to suggest that each season is tackling a single book.

In the aforementioned book, a former spy begins to slowly lose his mind, which sends him on a deadly rampage of destruction, including the bombing of a crowded shopping mall. This personal connection will probably be the heart of season 4, as the of Slough House must begin to reckon with their own failures, and look inward at what being an MI5 Agent really means. It is unclear how closely Slow Horses season 4 will follow the book, but it already promises to be the most enthralling outing yet.
