Polish soccer star Robert Lewandowski, a striker for the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich, posted a photo on Instagram with a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller in his hands. Over the past months, anticipation for the release of the PS5 has reached something of a fever pitch, and with the release date set for November 12, countless fans are waiting with bated breath for their chance to get their own console.

News surrounding the release of the PlayStation 5 has been somewhat of a mixed bag. Various showcases, streams, and press releases have touted many positives inherent in the console, such as its hardware capabilities, rapper Travis Scott close to a month ago. As it so happens, Travis Scott isn't the only celebrity who managed to get themselves advanced access.

Bayern Munich Striker Robert Lewandowski shared an Instagram post in which he holds a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller while looking out of frame, presumably at a TV screen hooked up to a PS5 console. The post's caption reads "This 5eason game has no limits" followed by comments pointing out the obvious: that Lewandowski might have a PS5 and definitely has a PS5 controller. While there is not much else to go on in the photo, the post definitely inspires a considerable twinge of jealousy for those of us who aren't famous soccer stars or rappers with friends at Sony.

Robert Lewandowski with PS5 Controller

The PlayStation 5 console itself is nowhere to be seen, a seemingly emerging trend as Travis Scott's Instagram post similarly gave followers a shot that only included the DualSense controller. This could be part of an agreement with Sony where it gifts an early PS5 to a high profile individual on the condition that they cannot post any photos that include the console itself, which begs the question: Did Robert Lewandowski and Travis Scott receive only the controller for the purpose of promotion?

Tinfoil hats aside, this marketing tactic is definitely effective, building further hype onto the November 12th release date. It is possible that more choice celebrities will come out with posts showcasing their very own PS5 DualSense controller (sans PS5), but that remains to be seen. Whether Lewandowski has a PS5 in hand or not, the rest of us will have to continue playing the preorder lottery or refreshing retailer websites come November 12th.
