Everything Revealed In The Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Trailer

Video game Easter eggs, new characters and a darker tone set up the biggest sequel yet.

While the first two movies certainly stayed true to the source video game franchise, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer shows the filmmakers are adhering to the game closer than ever before. One of the biggest signs is the way the movie looks to be handling Shadow's origin story, namely his relationship with Maria Robotnik, Gerald Robotnik's granddaughter whom Shadow was created for in the hopes of curing her illness. Her death at the hands of the Guardian Units of Nations ultimately traumatized Shadow, putting him on the antihero path seen in the games.

Reeves' voice in the trailer proves to be an excellent fit for the cool, brooding demeanor Shadow has become well-known for throughout the SEGA franchise.

Beyond his actual story, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer also nicely spotlights the various Easter eggs the filmmakers are bringing from the games for Shadow.

Between the black hedgehog riding a motorcycle to using a skating-like motion to run across surfaces and having teleportation abilities, director Jeff Fowler and writers Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington have kept the beloved character intact. In addition, Reeves' voice in the trailer proves to be an excellent fit for the cool, brooding demeanor Shadow has become well-known for throughout the SEGA franchise.
