Spider-Man’s original suit is necessarily his best one.
Spider-Man has had no shortage of redesigns and alternate looks throughout Marvel Comics. Sometimes that comes in the form of Peter Parker getting a new costume, other times it’s with the introduction of a bold redesigns that Marvel Comics puts the character through are even cooler than the original look. Here are 10 incredible Spider-Man designs that make the original hero look boring.
10 Spider-Armor MK III
Spider-Man’s Spider-Armor was Designed Specifically to Beat the Sinister Six
Spider-Man has had many armored upgrades throughout his personal history (from the Iron-Spider to the silver MK I Armor), but arguably none of them are as cool as the Spider-Armor MK III. This armor is a perfect example of what Peter Parker could do with unlimited resources, as this armor was developed using Horizon Labs’ vast resources to do one thing: beat the Sinister Six.
The armor can detect Chameleon’s heartbeat (rendering his shapeshifting useless), it’s durable enough to take a hit from Rhino, it can see through Mysterio’s illusions, it can control Sandman against his will, and it can transform Electro back into his human state from his electrical state. The armor also has a utility belt filled with different kinds of webbing, and it grants Spider-Man the ability to fly. Plus, it looks badass.
9 Mystic Armor
Spider-Man Got a New Look & Magical Upgrade from Doctor Doom
With the launch of Marvel Comics’ crossover event, One World Under Doom, Peter Parker got a new look and a magical upgrade courtesy of Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Doom himself. Spider-Man’s costume got a new, sleek, metallic aesthetic with classic red highlights, and green light generated from his hands whenever he channels magic through the armor. This costume literally looks like Doctor Doom took Spider-Man’s classic suit and merged it with something that Doctor Strange would wear, with the addition of Doom-esque armor covering Spidey’s body.
Aside from the look alone, this suit is badass because of the extra powers it offers Spider-Man. With this suit, Spider-Man can cast magical spells and even come back from the dead (though only eight times). So, not only does Spider-Man look cool, he’s also way more powerful in this suit as well.
8 Spider-Man 2211
Max Borne Merges Spider-Man’s Iconic Design with Classic Sci-Fi Aesthetic & Advanced Tech
Max Borne is the Spider-Man of Earth-9500 in the year 2211, and has made multiple appearances in stories involving the multiverse (including Spider-Verse and Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-Man). While his multiversal significance is noteworthy - as any Spider-Man who fights evil on a multiversal scale is worth knowing about - the main takeaway from this Spider-Man variant is his interesting suit.
The suit itself is a high-tech marvel, with mechanical arms that make his moniker all the more accurate, and other features that are decidedly more impressive. Spider-Man 2211’s suit is bulletproof, can create all kinds of different webbing (including electric and guided webbing), and can even peer into the multiverse itself. Plus, the aesthetic is simply awesome, merging the classic pulpy Sci-Fi ‘space-adventurer’ look with the iconic Spider-Man design.
7 SP//dr
Peni Parker is a High-Tech Spider-Hero Unlike Any Other
Peni Parker aka SP//dr is definitely a unique take on the classic character, not just the costume, but the entire nature of her ‘powers’. The SP//dr armor is a Battlesuit created by her father, who died piloting it when Peni was just nine years old - at which point, Peni inherited the suit and became her world’s ‘Spider-Man’.
The SP//dr Battlesuit was reportedly inspired by the Evangelion Units from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Like the original Spider-Man, this suit grants Peni the ability to shoot webs, climb on walls, and makes her super fast and strong (with some added high-tech features as well). Plus, Peni had to be bitten by a spider to get her ‘powers’. However, this spider had to bite her because it was the other half of the suit’s U. Again, this is a very unique (and awesome) take on Spider-Man, which is obvious just by looking at the mech-style suit.
6 Spiders-Man
‘Peter Parker’ of Earth-11580 is THE Most Disturbing ‘Spider-Man’ in Marvel
Spiders-Man is an interesting Spider-Man variant, as his costume is honestly exactly the same as his Earth-616 counterpart, but it’s what he looks like underneath the suit is where the bold redesign can be found - and, oh man, is it a doozy. Spiders-Man is literally a hive of spiders; a hive-mind controlled by Peter Parker’s consciousness after Peter was consumed by these countless radioactive spiders in Horizon Labs.
This ‘Peter Parker’-spiders-hivemind push themselves together into the classic Spider-Man costume to make it look like they are a man, when in fact, they’re just a bunch of spiders with the collective mind of Peter Parker. This is truly bizarre, and by comparison, it definitely makes the original Spider-Man seem ‘boring’. Especially since one of his ‘powers’ is the ability to shoot spiders at his opponent (yeesh).
5 Uncanny Spider-Man
X-Men’s Nightcrawler Became a New Kind of Spider-Man
Right after the fall of Krakoa, mutants were hated more than they ever were before, and most of them had nowhere to go and nothing to do while certain subsects of mutantkind fought to take down Orchis once and for all. So, Nightcrawler asked Spider-Man if he could use his superhero alter ego for a while in order to continue being a hero without bringing attention to the fact that he’s a mutant - as Orchis’ Stark Sentinels would have come down on him with everything they had.
As Spider-Man, Nightcrawler tweaked the costume a bit, making it more fitting to him personally. The pointed ‘elf ears’ were added to the outside of the mask, as were his three-fingered/three-toed gloves and shoes, and even a covering for his tail. The big-eyed masked face is basically the same, as is the spider-emblem, but the color scheme was changed to black and red (again, reminiscent of Nightcrawler’s X-Men suit).
4 Peach Momoko’s ‘Spider-Man’
Peach Momoko Created a Spider-Man Variant Based on Japanese Folklore
In Peach Momoko’s Demon Wars saga, a number of Marvel characters were introduced that were startlingly different from their Earth-616 counterparts - including and especially Spider-Man. In this continuity, ‘Spider-Man’ is named Kumosuke, and he’s a yōkai (or, race of spirits featured in Japanese mythology). Kumosuke is based on Tsuchigumo, a spirit whose depictions are tied to that of a bird spider. Hence, Peach Momoko’s ‘Spider-Man’.

Spider-Man's Most Disgusting Transformation Ever Is Here to Stay
Peach Momoko's Spider-Man may not be the handsome superhero that fans recognize, but this variant proves that Spidey is a hero in any universe.
This version of Spider-Man looks like a giant spider with some human qualities, but he’s mostly just a big spider. But, while many would assume this would make him villainous, Kumosuke is actually just as heroic as Earth-616’s Peter Parker with pretty much all the original’s powers - he’s just absolutely terrifying to look at.
3 Pete Spiderman
Pete Spiderman is the Friendly Neighborhood-Watch Hero
Pete Spiderman (yes, that is his last name, and it should be pronounced like ‘Goldman’ or ‘Silverman’) is the Friendly Neighborhood-Watch hero of his HOA, and an ant. A radioactive spider was living in his furniture before Pete stumbled upon it, and it bit him, giving Spiderman fantastic-ish powers. He more-or-less has all of Spider-Man’s classic abilities, but he was an out-of-shape middle-aged guy when he got them, so they’re not as good. However, he does have the ability to create organic webbing and shoot them from his wrists (and belly button), so that’s an upgrade from Earth-616’s version.

Friends' Alternate Spider-Man Name Is Now Official Marvel Canon
In one episode of Friends, Chandler and Phoebe discuss the fact that 'Spider-Man' isn't the hero's last name. In 2022, however, that's no longer true.
Looks-wise, Pete Spiderman has the appearance of a nerdy, middle-aged white guy living in the suburbs, complete with a polo shirt, cargo shorts, and socks with sandals. At least he adheres to the general Spider-Man aesthetic!
2 Rek-Rap
A Heroic Symbiote-Wearing Demon who Idolizes Spider-Man
Rek-Rap is a demon who lived in Limbo, and he came to idolize Peter Parker’s Spider-Man after he saved his life - even going so far as to wear a Spider-Man t-shirt. Rek-Rap desperately wanted to be a hero just like Spider-Man, and he got his chance after he merged with a symbiote, which used Rek-Rap’s t-shirt as the base for his ‘costume’ design. After bonding with the symbiote and securing his Spider-Man aesthetic - a weirdly buff and toothy one, but still - Rek-Rap (‘Parker’ backwards) was officially born.
Thanks to Spider-Man’s kindness, Rek-Rap is a hero through-and-through, and is worthy of wearing a decidedly unique take on Spider-Man’s classic design. Plus, Rek-Rap has all of Spider-Man’s powers (more-or-less) thanks to his symbiote - meaning he can back up his look with action.
1 Itsy Bitsy
Spider-Man’s ‘Daughter’ Has a Cooler Spider/Human Character Design than He Does
When it comes to human/spider character designs, there is no character with a cooler look than Itsy Bitsy. The biological offspring of Spider-Man and Deadpool, Itsy Bitsy is a blue, six-armed woman with all the powers of both Spider-Man and Deadpool. Not only does she look the way one would think a human/spider mutant would look (way more than Spider-Man, anyway), but she’s also a pure badass - complete with swords, guns, spider-powers, and a god-tier healing factor to boot.

It's a Long Story, But Yes - Deadpool and Spider-Man Really Had a Daughter
Spider-Man and Deadpool have a weird relationship in Marvel, and the more fans look into it, the weirder it gets, as the two actually have a daughter!
Plus, Itsy Bitsy’s base-design isn’t her only one. When she gets vaporized, Itsy Bitsy’s healing factor kicks in, bringing her back from nothing more than a spec of her disintegrated body as a literal spider with some of her original features. Both of her designs are incredible, and stand as some of the best alternate ‘Spider-Man’ looks in Marvel Comics that certainly make the original look boring.
