A new animated short explores Spidey's origin ahead of the release of focusing on Miles Morales as Spider-Man. Before that, however, we'll be getting a new TV show featuring Peter Parker.
With the end of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, though that hasn't been confirmed. In the meantime, Disney XD is promoting the show with a series of six shorts -- and the first one has arrived.
The first of the animated shorts is now online. On July 24, it will air on Disney XD and the network's YouTube channel, with each subsequent short following on a daily basis. As both the show and Homecoming will be skipping a retelling of Spidey's origin, the short recaps it within the new world of the show.
The short not only gives a sense of the animation style, but introduces us to some new takes on certain characters. There's of course Harry Osborn, who will be attending a more prestigious school than Peter. We then meet Liz Allan, who will be Peter's love interest in Homecoming. Finally, we meet the elder and younger Smythe, who have both been Spider-Man enemies in the comics. While the son seems amicable enough now, his father already doesn't like Peter. In the show, he'll be reimagined as a teacher at Peter's school.
This is actually the second look we've had at the show. Earlier this month, we saw the first poster for the series along with a clip of one of the episodes featuring Spidey fighting the Scorpion. Interestingly, we've yet to get a premiere date or trailer, despite all the other looks at the show that have emerged.
Last month also brought with it some artwork for the series, teasing the show's updated takes on a few key villains. With Comic-Con and D23 coming up fast, it's likely a full trailer will arrive soon. In the meantime, the shorts should hold fans over until the series debuts.
Marvel’s Spider-Man will air sometime later this summer.
