Marvel’s Oscar-winning animated Spider-Verse series starring Miles Morales’ iteration of Spider-Man is set to release its final installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, in two years, with the wait between sequels getting excruciatingly long for those looking for a satisfying conclusion to this epic multiverse-spanning superhero story. Fortunately, a new fan-made Spider-Verse-esque animation featuring a battle between Spider-Man and Sandman is the perfect thing to tide fans over until Beyond the Spider-Verse’s big screen debut.

A fifteen-second clip recently shared on Instagram by Sarp Serter (@sarpserter), Sarp’s latest creative endeavor s the handful of other animated videos he’s posted in the past, with each exploring a new iteration of Marvel’s Friendly Neighborhood Superhero and his classic roster of villains.

Creating clips featuring Symbiote Spider-Man fighting The Lizard, Iron Spider taking on a hulking version of Venom, and even Spider-Man holding on for dear life as he’s pulled around by Iron Man via his webbing, Sarp also finds a way to pay homage to the Spider-Verse films with an impressive comic book-inspired art style that pops.

Comic book art: Spider-Man fights Sandman.

Taking place on an alternate Earth separate from Marvel’s Earth-616, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced theatergoers to Miles Morales’ Spider-Man and spun the tale of a hero learning how to wield his power responsibly while dealing with a set of multiversal stakes that could only be overcome with the help of his fellow spider-people, Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham included. Showcasing more and more Spider-Men from other realities as the series went on, 2027’s delayed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse film promises even more multiversal hijinks, with an official version of Sarp’s incredible Spider-Man vs Sandman animation being a possibility.

Animating Spider-Man as he barrels toward the screen, pushed along by the enormous granular hand of Sandman, Sarp brings fans right into the action, showing just how exhilarating a battle between these two iconic Marvel characters can be. Absorbed by Sandman next, Spider-Man manages to fight his way out of the villain's chest, only to dodge a tremendous hand slap and take out Sandman’s head, feet-first, with a well-aimed swing. Keeping with that same Spider-Verse style, Sarp animates the words “SLAM!” and “WHACK!” as if they were physical parts of the world, with flashes of color accentuating the scene throughout.
