The showdown between Kindred and Spider-Man is finally here! But once the wall-crawler comes up against his newest enemy’s raw power, he begins to realize just how dire the situation truly is.

After first appearing at the end of the first arc of Nick Spencer’s epic run, the demonic mastermind known as Kindred began worming his way into the minds of Spidey’s greatest adversaries, in some cases literally, before finally taking center stage in October’s Amazing Spider-Man #50. The milestone issue kicks off the “Last Remains” storyline, which is so ambitious, its chapters cannot fit into the usual bi-weekly schedule. Instead, each installment will be followed by a second issue with the same number, followed by a decimal point and the letters “LR”. That’s right, it will take four comics a month for Kindred, accompanied by his creepy centipedes, to wipe the floor with the team of Spider-Heroes known as the Order of the Web, before ultimately thrashing the not-so-spectacular Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man #52.

Spencer is reunited with artist Patrick Gleason in this latest game-changing storyline, in which fans are promised their hero will do something “unthinkable” in order to track Kindred down. In a case of clever retconning, Spencer and artist Ryan Ottley created the supervillain but based him on a character mentioned by writer Peter David in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #12.

Amazing Spider-Man

The impressive list of characters tangled up in Kindred’s web includes Cletus Kasady, AKA Carnage.

The battle spills over to Amazing Spider-Man #52.LR and Amazing Spider-Man #53. Spider-Man’s ally, Doctor Strange, must recruit help in order to stop Sin-Eater, the vigilante responsible for murdering Peter Parker’s close friend, police captain Jean DeWolff, and for ruining the career of Eddie Brock, before he became Venom. Whoever Kindred may be, one thing is certain: the depth of the character’s ties to Spider-Man has only begun to be explored.
