When he's duking it out with other Nicktoons in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl the yellow sponge will go into battle against a host of other iconic illustrated characters.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was announced with an impressive roster of confirmed Nicktoon characters. Unsurprisingly, the popular show Spongebob Squarepants received a large number of representatives, with three Bikini Bottom residents making the cut. Spongebob himself will appear, alongside his dimwitted best friend Patrick Star and the adventurous air-breather Sandy Cheeks. The Ren & Stimpy Show.
A move list, posted to Twitter by Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, reveals that several of Spongebob Squarepants' moves borrow from iconic cartoon scenes. An upward attack makes use of a massive red karate glove, which has been seen in various episodes of the show. Two attacks, the "Imagination Clap" and "Imagination Kick," feature a rainbow that references a scene from the 2002 Spongebob Squarepants episode "The Idiot Box." The character's iconic jellyfish net is also used in some attacks, and a flying spatula references the very first episode of the beloved series.
While Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does not have a confirmed release date, recent leaks may have revealed when players can expect to see the platform brawler. A listing on Nintendo's website leaked the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl release date as October 5, suggesting fans may only be waiting a short time before they can battle as their favorite Nicktoon. This leak also listed the game's file size is 2.9 gigabytes, which is modest but not unusual for a platform fighting game of the type.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl appears to be recreating the channel's most iconic characters in extreme detail. Within just a handful of moves, developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs have managed to fit a ton of fun references to Spongebob Squarepants history. From imagination rainbows to turbo-powered spatulas, gamers will soon be able to finally put themselves in the small brown shoes of everyone's favorite sea sponge.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will release in 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
