Spotify s can now play Snake right inside the app, provided they know where to find the game. Snake started out as an arcade video game, but exploded in popularity after Nokia started pre-loading it on its feature phones. Multiple versions of Snake were released over the years, but the premise remains the same – feed an ever-growing snake while steering it left, right, up, and down, all while avoiding crashing into obstacles.
Snake was so popular that even Google built the game into search. 'Made for you' playlists. Tap the three dots next to the button, scroll right to the end, and tap 'Eat this playlist.' A version of the Snake game will now appear on the screen.
Play Spotify's Snake Game
The Spotify 'Eat this playlist' game will feel instantly familiar to anyone who's played Snake before. The only difference is that the food the Snake eats isn't apples or eggs – it's individual tracks in the playlist. Every song is denoted by a small square displaying the album art. Additionally, Spotify plays the track that's displayed on the screen. Once the snake devours a track, the next one in the playlist appears as food and begins playing. It's a fun way to preview all the songs in the playlist, all while reliving some serious '90s nostalgia.
There are other effects Spotify throws in. The background color on the screen changes to match the album art, and the growing snake is a chain of the different songs in the playlist. s can also hit the '+' button in the top left corner to add the currently-playing track to their library, but they'll need to be quick to avoid the Snake colliding with an obstacle.
If the Snake dies, s can tap the 'Try again' button to start a new game. While this will result in starting out with just the head of the Snake again, Spotify doesn't start over from the first track in the playlist, and instead, picks up where the left off. Once all the songs in a Spotify playlist have been 'eaten' by the Snake, they start playing again from the beginning, ensuring a virtually endless game that lasts as long as the survives.
