New details about the porgs in Funko's collection of Pop figures (among other things) ahead of schedule, getting a jump start on their Star Wars shopping sprees and putting together a list of everything they want to buy.
Returning characters like Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren are sure to be highly in-demand when it comes to toys, but they may be eclipsed in marketability by the porgs. The cute feathered creatures are poised to become this generation's Ewoks, though there's no denying their appeal, and many viewers (especially kids) are going to want one or two to call their own this holiday season. Of course, a plush porg was pushed into production, and that toy has revealed some new details about the Ahch-To natives.
A posting on Reddit (hat tip Star Wars News Net) discovered an eBay listing of the stuffed porg, which included a brief description of them. You can read that below, as well as check out a video showing what the animals sound like.
Small, flat-muzzled avians that flock about the rocks and roost in the cliffs [of] Luke Skywalker's secluded island, porgs are inquisitive creatures.
Since the porgs are curious by nature, it makes sense why they would be so intrigued by both R2-D2, who accompanied Rey to Ahch-To to find Luke. Given how remote the world is, it's probably rare for it to have visitors, meaning the porgs have probably never seen anything like a Wookiee or astromech droid before. Hopefully, it will be fun to watch their interactions with Chewie and Artoo, as they have the potential to provide The Last Jedi with some moments of levity amidst the heavy character drama that will take place. Chewie, of course, is still in a state of mourning following the loss of Han Solo, so he would definitely appreciate the companionship a group of porgs provide.
It will be interesting to see how prominent of a role in the narrative the porgs have. As of now, they seem to be harmless background creatures to make Ahch-To feel like a living place, but the recent spread from EW showed at least one of them aims to throw some surprises at viewers, but that would be a step too far.
