Stevenson portrayed Baylan Skoll with such greatness that both are considered the best aspects of Star Wars TV show discourse in recent years.

7 Abeloth

The Mortis connections of Peridea bring to light a terrifying Star Wars Legends story.

Abeloth in Star Wars Legends showing her disturbing smile with teeth

Perhaps the most prevalent theory surrounding Baylan Skoll's quest is that he is searching for Star Wars' Abeloth in Ahsoka. Abeloth is a being from Star Wars Legends who connects to the Mortis Gods. While Abeloth is yet to be officially confirmed as canon, the Mortis Gods are. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 3, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano were transported to the mystical realm of Mortis where three Force deities reside. These deities were The Son, The Daughter, and The Father, who represent the dark side, the light side, and balance in the Force respectively.

The Mortis Gods were the physical embodiments of the Force, taking the Clone Wars trio on a deep, spiritual journey in which Anakin seemingly took The Father's place. However, most of the meaning behind the Mortis Gods and the adventure surrounding them in The Clone Wars was left mysteriously vague. That said, Ahsoka's season 1 finale showed Baylan standing on giant statues depicting The Father, The Son, and the decapitated figure of The Daughter, igniting theories that Baylan's search surrounds the Force deities.

Mortis Gods Explained: Star Wars History, Powers, Planet & Importance

The Mortis gods are some of Star Wars’ most powerful Force-wielders, and Dave Filoni is using them to unite The Clone Wars, Rebels, and now Ahsoka.

Given the Mortis connections of Baylan's journey on Peridea, many turned their attention to Abeloth. In Star Wars Legends, Abeloth was connected to the Mortis Gods as she was once The Mother. However, The Mother was not immortal like her family , leading her to take drastic measures to attain their power. This turned The Mother into Abeloth, a crazed, evil deity dubbed the Bringer of Chaos. Abeloth was imprisoned by her family, though escaped every time the Force fell out of balance. In Legends, Abeloth was freed indefinitely when the Mortis Gods died, leading Luke Skywalker to face her.

While these aspects are not canon, they certainly apply to Ahsoka's Baylan theories. In Legends, Luke's Jedi Order faced Abeloth when she broke free in the New Republic era, the same era in which Ahsoka takes place. Given that Abeloth seeks chaos, Baylan seeks an end to the light and dark sides of the Force, and Peridea holds obvious connections to the Mortis Gods, it is more than plausible that the former Jedi seeks The Mother to free her from her shackles and achieve his ultimate goal.

6 The Mortis Gods

While Abeloth is a likely object of Baylan's journey given the latter's goal of ending the cycle of violence caused by the Force, it could be more simple than first thought. It could be the case that Baylan is simply searching for the Mortis Gods themselves. While the Mortis Gods seemingly died in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, their inherent spiritual, Force-related nature could easily see them reborn. Baylan is looking for a way to stop the light and dark from fighting one another so that the galaxy is at peace, something the Mortis Gods could provide.

Baylan could be searching for the Mortis Gods as a means of killing The Daughter and The Son. That way, only balance in the Force would remain through The Father. This could stop the endless wars of the Jedi and the Sith, the dark side and the light, and bring about an era of peace that Baylan is searching for through an ever so vital part of Star Wars: balance.

The Mortis Gods represent a deep facet of Star Wars lore. As a result, watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 3, episodes 15, 16, and 17 would be beneficial in better understanding the mysterious Force deities.

5 The Nameless

The terrifying enemies of the High Republic Jedi could be Baylan's end goal...

Another theory stemming out of Baylan's search connects to Star Wars' High Republic era. In the High Republic novels, the core conflict wages between the Jedi Order and Outer Rim marauders known as the Nihil. The Nihil, in their search to combat the Jedi, unleashed a terrifying creature dubbed the Nameless. These creatures were shown to feed on the Force itself, paralyzing Jedi and reducing them to stone husks once their Force power had been consumed.

In the books of the High Republic, the Nameless are said to hail from Planet X. The planet is described as a nexus for both the light and dark sides of the Force, very similar to the description of Mortis. This brief connection to Mortis has led many to theorize that Baylan is seeking the Nameless on Peridea given the latter planet's connection to the Mortis Gods. With the Nameless under his command, Baylan could bring about the end of the Force itself, achieving his ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of violence the power provides.

4 The Bendu

The so-called "one in the middle" of the Force could be awaiting Baylan at the end of the latter's path.

Kanan trains with the Bendu in Star Wars Rebels

An ittedly less likely though nonetheless prevalent theory about what Baylan is searching for is The Bendu. The Bendu appeared in several episodes of Star Wars Rebels, proclaiming himself as the "one in the middle" of the Force, neither straying to the light nor dark side. Given that Baylan seeks to stop the conflicts between the light and dark sides of the Force, it could make sense for him to seek out The Bendu as a way of ensuring this by utilizing the incredibly powerful, balanced Force abilities the latter possesses.

Season 3, Episode 3 - "The Holocrons of Fate"

3 Darth Traya/Kreia

Another character from Star Wars Legends could be the subject of Baylan's long quest.

Darth Nihilus, Darth Traya and Darth Scion from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

Abeloth is not the only theorized Legends character whom Baylan could be searching for, with the ancient Sith known as Darth Traya being a potential option. Darth Traya, also known as Kreia, was once both a Jedi and a Sith from the time of the Old Republic in Star Wars Legends. After becoming disillusioned with both sides of the Force, Kreia took it upon herself to sever the galaxy's connection to it. Kreia sought to end the death that comes with endless conflicts between the light and the dark, though ultimately failed in her mission.

This quest sounds eerily similar to Baylan Skoll's goal in Ahsoka. It could, therefore, be possible that Baylan has heard whispers of an ancient being who also attempted to rid the galaxy of the Force's endless cycle of war: Kreia/Darth Traya. Star Wars: The Clone Wars' inclusion of Darth Bane proved that ancient Sith can persevere in canon, as did Emperor Palpatine's Skywalker Saga journey. With that in mind, it is not impossible for Kreia's lifeforce to be persevering somewhere distant - like Peridea - with Baylan looking to finish the work she once started millennia ago.

2 The Zeffo

Star Wars' mysterious video game beings could be utilized in live-action going forward.

A Xeffo Tomb Guardian, a regular Zeffo, and Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Like The Bendu, the theory that Baylan seeks the Zeffo is endlessly intriguing albeit perhaps less likely than others on this list. The Zeffo were introduced as a race of ancient, Force-sensitive beings in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The Zeffo were the subject of the game, as Cal Kestis explored ancient Zeffo cities and tombs to find out what happened to them and why they disappeared. After the Zeffo were affected by the dark side thanks to a sage named Kujet, they disappeared into the Unknown Regions in search of peace.

It could be revealed that the Zeffo found their way to Peridea and discovered a way to rid the galaxy of the battles between dark and light after what happened with Kujet.

This sounds similar to Baylan Skoll's journey. He wishes to find peace after being negatively impacted by the light and dark sides of the Force constantly clashing against one another, something the Zeffo also did. It could be revealed that the Zeffo found their way to Peridea and discovered a way to rid the galaxy of the battles between dark and light after what happened with Kujet. Ahsoka episode 6 included teases of the Zeffo language and architecture, hinting that they may have a role to play in the story ahead.

1 A Portal To The World Between Worlds

The mysterious, Force-aligned portal could help Baylan achieve his goals.

Ahsoka and the World Between Worlds

A Star Wars realm introduced in Star Wars Rebels and even utilized in Ahsoka is the World Between Worlds. In Star Wars, the World Between Worlds is a mysterious conduit within the Force that allows anyone who enters it to revisit aspects of the past and present, while even allowing them to see into the future. The World Between Worlds has been connected with the Mortis Gods as evidenced by a mural of them being painted above the portal to the realm in Star Wars Rebels.

While it remains unclear how deep the World Between Worlds' powers go, Baylan could be searching for an entrance to the mystical realm. This would enable him to wield a great deal of power related to Star Wars' past, present, and future that could see him seek an end to the Force's conflicts he so desires. Regardless, it remains to be seen what awaits Baylan Skoll at the end of his path, with the highly-anticipated Ahsoka season 2 likely providing such answers.
