the Ghorman Massacre—which made Andor feel like something truly new in the franchise.

Yet, that doesn’t make it entirely separate from the other movies and shows of Star Wars (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being the most obvious). It certainly wasn’t as connected to previous projects as other recent Star Wars shows were, such as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, wherein Wim became a Luke Skywalker replacement. However, it did have some important connections with other characters, shows, and movies in the franchise. One such point of connection was perhaps the most emotional plot point for Cassian in Andor season 2, which replicated Anakin Skywalker’s most meaningful legacy.

Anakin Skywalker Created C-3PO To Help His Mother, Shmi

The Phantom Menace Showed C-3PO's Origin Story

C-3PO was introduced in A New Hope, and even by the end of the original Star Wars trilogy, he was already seen as one of Star Wars' best droids. That perception has only continued over the years, with his appearances throughout the Skywalker Saga exploring his unique, quirky personality but also his loyalty to his friends even more. In fact, C-3PO isn’t just any droid. Threepio holds the honor of being in all nine Skywalker Saga movies, proving just how important he really is.

As shown in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, that extensive Star Wars history began (chronologically) with Anakin Skywalker building C-3PO for his mother, Shmi, to help her with her various tasks. Interestingly, this origin story for C-3PO was actually early proof of Anakin's Force-sensitivity, as exceptional skill with technology is one of Star Wars' Force powers. The same was true of Anakin’s ability to build a podracer, all of which happened when Anakin was still a small child.

In the end, though, Threepio became so much more than just proof of Anakin's unique abilities and even more than a droid to help his mother. The Skywalker Saga has more than proven that C-3PO actually became a part of the family, and he has continued to be a confidant and caretaker for many of the Skywalker family. That became especially clear following Shmi's tragic death in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, after which C-3PO moved on with other of the Skywalker family—much longer than Anakin even knew, in fact.

C-3PO Went On To Help Pé And (Later) Leia

C-3PO's Role Only Became More Important With Time

Pe, R2-D2, Anakin, and C-3PO on Tatooine in Star Wars Attack of the Clones

Following The Phantom Menace, Anakin and Pé effectively swapped droids, with R2-D2 becoming Anakin’s close friend and Threepio remaining by Pé’s side. Touchingly, these two droids actually ended up being the only witnesses to Pé and Anakin's wedding, yet again proving their importance. After Pé’s death in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, C-3PO remained an essential part of the Skywalker family, even going with Bail Organa and Leia at the end of that movie.

Audiences were already aware that C-3PO then played a role in the Rebellion overthrowing the Empire in the original trilogy, helping both Luke and Leia throughout this period. Even beyond that, though, C-3PO remained a loyal friend to Leia. In fact, C-3PO ended up outliving the last Skywalker (by blood) in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, meaning he was a key member of this family from the beginning of the Skywalker Saga to the family's end, particularly when it came to his relationship with Leia for decades.

The latter is particularly emotional because Anakin never had any idea that Threepio continued to take care of his family in this way. It’s very unlikely Darth Vader ever gave much consideration at all to what became of his droids after he fell to the dark side, which is an especially brutal realization when it comes to R2, and we know Vader had no idea Leia existed at that point in the Star Wars timeline. Yet, C-3PO looked after Anakin's daughter, connecting her to her Skywalker heritage in a truly unique way, and furthering Anakin's legacy.

B2EMO Is Now With Cassian's Child As Well

This Story Is One Of Many Star Wars "Rhymes"

Bix and baby in Andor season 2 finale

Somewhat controversially, the Andor season 2 ending revealed that Bix Caleen had a baby with Cassian Andor—one he sadly never knew about and never will, given his death in Rogue One. This came on the heels of Bix leaving Cassian and insisting that he choose the Rebellion over their relationship, just as she was. The child remains largely a mystery in Star Wars, with neither its name nor its gender revealed in the finale (and Tony Gilroy indicated even he doesn’t know these answers).

What we do know, however, is that Cassian’s droid B2EMO, who had once belonged to his mother, Maarva Andor, is now on Mina Rau with both Bix and the baby, watching over them. Especially with Cassian’s death in Rogue One, this is a beautiful, albeit painful, way to keep that connection between Bix, Cassian, and the baby alive. In addition to that beautiful storytelling, this plot point with Cassian, B2EMO, Bix, and the baby also directly connects to Anakin’s incredibly meaningful family legacy with C-3PO.

Like Anakin, Cassian Had No Idea That His Droid Would Help His Child

Both Fathers Had No Idea What Became Of Their Droids

Jyn and Cassian's final embrace in Rogue One.

The connections between Anakin leaving C-3PO with Pé and then Threepio going to Leia in the prequels and B2EMO ending up with Bix and the baby in Andor season 2 are extensive. Obviously, on the surface, there is a link here because each family has an important droid, but it is so much more meaningful than that. Particularly because both characters are separated from their children as they’re growing up, both C-3PO and B2EMO serve almost as proxies for these fathers.

Both C-3PO and B2EMO serve almost as proxies for these fathers.

Yet another deep connection between these stories is the fact that neither Anakin nor Cassian had any idea how important their droids became to their families or how those legacies lived on. Cassian, like Anakin, didn't even know his baby existed, as Bix didn’t tell him before leaving. In Anakin’s case, he believed Pé died while pregnant and never delivered the baby (as he didn’t know she was having twins). The fact that they didn't even know about their droids' impact is both touching and devastating.

Although we got to see how important C-3PO continued to be to the Skywalkers, it’s unclear whether we will see B2EMO, Bix, and the baby again. There have already been hints that Bix and the baby will return at some point, which would presumably mean the return of B2EMO, but that remains to be seen. Even so, it’s already clear enough that B2EMO remaining with Bix and the baby in Andor season 2 perfectly replicates Anakin Skywalker’s legacy living on through C-3PO.
