Asajj Ventress Doesn't Explain Her Resurrection

It's Not Important To Clone Force 99

Clone Force 99 Meets Ventress In Bad Batch Season 3

It was heavily suggested that Asajj Ventress gave her life to save Jedi Quinlan Vos in the canonical novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden based on unreleased Clone Wars episodes. However, the teases of her survival via Nightsister magicks have seemingly come true with Ventress' new return in The Bad Batch season 3, though the specifics are not revealed as they don't really matter to Clone Force 99 who's meeting Ventress for the first time. That said, Ventress does allude to her resurrection by the episode's end with a comment that she has "multiple lives".

Hailing from the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Asajj Ventress became Count Dooku's apprentice during the Clone Wars. Betrayed by her master, she sought revenge - even forming a surprising alliance with Jedi Master Quinlan Vos at one point. Asajj has reinvented herself as a bounty hunter, and survived into the Dark Times of the Empire's reign.

Vos' fate is not revealed either; the maverick Jedi whom Ventress fell in love with in Dark Disciple. That said, Quinlan Vos' activities during the Dark Times have been teased in other pieces of Star Wars media such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series where it was confirmed Quinlan had been helping Force sensitives hide from the Empire with the secret network known as the Hidden Path. To that end, it's unknown if Ventress is also working with the Hidden Path, or if she's still the bounty hunter she was in the final seasons of The Clone Wars.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Hints Asajj Ventress Is Still On A Redemption Path

On The Lighter Side With Some Lingering Darkness

Ventress and Vrathean In Bad Batch Season 3

Having begun a path toward redemption in Dark Disciple, it seems as though Ventress is continuing to walk down that same path in The Bad Batch season 3, episode 9. For example, Ventress does express elements of light by not killing the monstrous sea creature known as a vrathean when it attacks Omega and herself. At the same time, it's also suggested that there may be some lingering darkness based on Batcher's uneasiness toward Ventress when he and Omega first encountered the former Sith assassin.

Likewise, it doesn't seem as though Ventress is shy about her dark history, having created a new identity for herself in this new era that certainly seems more altruistic than she's been in the past. However, Clone Force 99 certainly harbors their suspicions toward Ventress once they confirm who she is. However, Ventress eventually proves herself to the clones, gaining enough trust to end the initial tensions due to her former life as a Sith assassin and Separatist war criminal.

Why Asajj Ventress Has A Yellow Lightsaber

Symbolizes Her New Path Beyond The Jedi And Sith

In the face of Clone Force 99 confirming her identity and suspicions due to her past life, Ventress has no problem holding her own against Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair. This includes the epic moment when Ventress ignites her brand-new curved and yellow-bladed lightsaber. Having picked it up on the black market after losing her red lightsabers to Barris Offee during the Clone Wars, this new lightsaber and its rare yellow coloring is very symbolic of the new life Ventress has seemingly forged for herself during the Dark Times.

Originally belonging to Jedi Temple guards, yellow is a far rarer kyber color compared to the blue and green that's far more predominant among the ranks of the Jedi Order. As such, the yellow color helps signify Ventress as a Force beyond the Jedi and Sith. To that end, the same is likely true for Rey Skywalker and her own yellow-bladed lightsaber, a visual cue that her New Jedi Order will be different and likely an improvement over the Order that came before in the Star Wars timeline.

What Does The Future Have In Store For Ventress?

There Has To Be More Going Forward

Rather than being a single episode that reveals everything Star Wars fans have wanted to know about Ventress ever since her last appearance, her new appearance in The Bad Batch very much feels like a pilot episode for something much bigger. There's clearly more story to be told in the Star Wars galaxy when it comes to Ventress, whether it's the exciting gaps in the past or her future that's still to come. She could also be part of "The Cavalry" which will likely offer aid to Clone Force 99 (part of the finale's episode title).

At any rate, the odds are extremely low that this episode of The Bad Batch season 3 was the last Star Wars fans will be seeing of Asajj Ventress. If not in future episodes of The Bad Batch season 3, Tales of the Jedi season 2 could be a promising means of continuing Ventress' story, as would a potential series about the Hidden Path which could reunite Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos, continuing their romance as they help keep Force s save from the grip of the Empire.
