The Season 7, it may be time to refresh with a rewatch of the series. However, you'll want to do some research beforehand, because the series is out of chronological order on Disney+.
Upon the November release of one of the most popular characters in the whole franchise.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars was produced as an anthology show until Lucas decided to combine several episodes from an arc in season 1 into a feature film in August of 2008, before any other episodes from the show released. The film received harsh criticism and many consider it to be the worst Star Wars theatrical release to date, earning a critics score of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, despite the backlash the television series was released just two months later in October. From 2008 to 2014 the series gained a large following among Star Wars fans until it was suddenly canceled after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, leaving an unsatisfying end with a season 5 cliffhanger in 2013. Netflix would release "The Lost Missions," comprised of some of the episodes that would have originally made up season 6, giving the show a softer landing, but still not resolving a number of major character arcs. Thankfully, after a six year hiatus, it was revealed that the series would be coming back for a seventh and final season in 2020.
In 2014 following what was thought to be the end of the series, starwars.com released a guide on how to watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars in chronological order. While the Star Wars movies were made and released out of order, there has never been an officially sanctioned viewing order, so this endorsement from starwars.com agrees that following this guide is the proper way to view the series, and many fans agree. The new order puts character arcs into their proper place and helps better establish characters (especially some fan-favorite clones) ahead of their original season 1 introduction, drastically improving the connection to their story.
There's a variety of reasons for the episodes originally being released out of order. First, the last-minute decision to combine some episodes into a movie didn't only mess up production schedules, but it meant fans were already going to be introduced to the series out of chronological order. Some episodes from season 2 and 3 are at the beginning of the chronological order, suggesting they were written to help shape the original anthological approach into a more serialized story.
Despite the jumbling of episodes, starwars.com agrees that this is the correct way to view the series. So animated shows are in a different order on Disney+, so a chronological option for The Clone Wars shouldn't be out of the question.
