David Cage, founder of Star Wars Eclipse developer Quantic Dream, has stated in an interview that the title will not be a copycat of the company's previous game, Detroit: Become Human. The new game is set in the High Republic era, when Jedi thrived hundreds of years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker. While Quantic Dream's previous game shares the sci-fi genre with the Star Wars IP, it has a much different focus, depicting a near-future society and a civil rights dispute between androids and humans.

In a recent interview with leaked story elements from Star Wars Eclipse, Cage still refused to talk about his approach to world-building and storytelling regarding Star Wars Eclipse, claiming that it would be difficult to answer without going into specifics. He did, however, state that "I want to keep experimenting and trying out new ideas," implying the studio will be testing new ways to tell stories with the Star Wars title.

Star Wars Eclipse Is Still Shrouded In Mystery

As pointed out by Cage, Star Wars Eclipse is the first time Quantic Dream has worked on another company's IP, and the Star Wars franchise's approach to the sci-fi genre is one of the things setting Eclipse apart from Detroit: Become Human, since the latter offered a restrained look at humanity's possible future instead of a galactic space opera on a massive scale. It's been argued that the Star Wars games are more important to the franchise than the movies, due to the depth of storytelling and worldbuilding that they offer, and this importance doesn't seem to be lost on David Cage.

While Cage has established that Star Wars Eclipse will not be a copy of Detroit: Become Human, there's still not much known about what it's actually like. The relative lack of information has made some fans wary about Quantic Dream's work on the game. Earlier this year, it was reported that Star Wars Eclipse could be delayed based on recent changes to Quantic Dream's open job listings. Rumors indicated that the game might not see release until 2027. Quantic Dream denied these Star Wars Eclipse delay claims by pointing out that it had never announced a release date, so the game couldn't technically be delayed. At the time of this writing, no release window for Star Wars Eclipse is known.

Very little information has been released since the 2021 Game Awards, where Star Wars Eclipse saw its first announcement. As the end of the year draws closer, there is a chance the title could reappear at the 2022 Game Awards with more details regarding gameplay, story, and possibly a release window. Until the time comes, players interested in Star Wars Eclipse will have to wait to find out how the game sets itself apart from Detroit: Become Human.
