Star Wars, and one quote proves that he lives up to that reputation. Introduced as the scruffy smuggler of debatable morality hired to take Obi-Wan and Luke to Alderaan, Han is soon revealed to have the makings of a real hero, repeatedly entering the battle against the Galactic Empire and risking himself to rescue others. However, all the good intentions in the world couldn’t change his tendency to act brashly.
Twitter/X Star Wars Legends short story collection Tales of the Bounty Hunters, which explores the backgrounds of the bounty hunters that appear in The Empire Strikes Back. During one story, a Corellian bounty hunter named Dengar reflects on Han’s unpredictability and recklessness. The book reveals, “It was rumored that on one occasion, Han Solo had had the audacity to call the Emperor, accusing him of dire crimes and challenging him to a boxing match!”
Han Solo Will Always Do The Most Unexpected Thing... For The Best Reason
Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Han as a gold-hearted troublemaker made him an easy fan-favorite. Behind his wild personality, Han always acts in the best interest of those he cares about… even if sometimes that only includes himself and Chewbacca. Many of his most exciting scenes involve acting impulsively, often in dangerous situations. As he realizes Lando's betrayal, Han’s first instinct is to start firing at Darth Vader despite the nonexistent chances of landing a killing blow. He risks the shots anyway because he’d rather die trying to defend his friends than go down without a fight.

Star Wars: 10 Things That Make No Sense About Han Solo
Han Solo is inarguably one of the best characters in Star Wars, but there are still a surprising amount of things about him that make no sense.
These reckless moves reveal Han’s secret desire to do what’s right. In Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Dengar laments that Han’s unpredictable behavior that made it “almost impossible” to track down and capture him was due to the conscience that guided him.
Han Solo had a conscience, and like a navicomputer it guided him on a certain course, a course that Dengar could not have hoped to understand - until now.
Han’s tendency to surprise does more than make him an exciting and compelling character. It also sets him apart from the lowlives he surrounds himself with, keeping him just unpredictable enough to avoid falling into traps or being followed.
I'd Pay To See Han In A Boxing Match With Palpatine
There’s no use pretending it would be much of a contest between Han Solo and a Sith Lord like Palpatine. With Sith powers like Force lightning and mind tricks, Palpatine would have more than an unfair advantage. However, a boxing match would be a strategic challenge on Han’s part. Even if a few tricks wait in both opponents’ sleeves, a physical fight between the two characters would be incredible to see depicted somewhere. Palpatine is much less frail than he acts, though Han’s reckless eagerness to deliver some justice might just take the Sith Lord by surprise.

Hailing from Corellia, Han Solo deserted the Empire to become a smuggler, and he spent years working for the Hutts as a spice runner. Han's life changed forever when he agreed to transport Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker to Alderaan from Tatooine, and he soon became an important member of the Rebel Alliance. Han's romance with Leia Organa became the stuff of legend, and they married shortly after the Battle of Endor. Sadly, their relationship ended in tragedy when their son Ben fell to the dark side - eventually killing Han. Still, memories of Han helped bring Ben back to the light.

The senator for Naboo, Palpatine rose to power and influence during the dying days of the Republic. In reality, his public persona was just a mask; he was really Darth Sidious, greatest of the Sith Lords, and he used his political skills and Machiavellian cunning to bring down both the Republic and the Jedi. Palpatine ruled his Galactic Empire for decades, until he was betrayed by his apprentice, Darth Vader. Even this wasn't enough to stop the Emperor, however, as he was resurrected by his followers - only to be defeated once again.
While Dengar debates the validity of the rumor of Han’s challenge to Emperor Palpatine, there’s no escaping the fact that Han’s reputation makes it hard to dismiss it outright. Besides, it’s hard to argue with Han’s belief that Palpatine might just have it coming. Star Wars established Palpatine’s tyrannical hold on the galaxy that might make him an outrageous boxing opponent, but Han Solo’s complete dismissal of logic when he decides something needs to be done is nothing to be trifled with.
