Warning! Spoilers for Star Wars #18

It turns out that Star Wars underworld. Although fans have always known Boba as one of the galaxy’s most infamous bounty hunters, War of the Bounty Hunters helped propel him to his status.

Although it once seemed that Boba Fett had a smooth trip from Cloud City to Tatooine after The Empire Strikes Back, he encounters some challenges on his journey in the comics. It seems like everyone in the galaxy is looking for the carbonite-frozen Han Solo, whether they care about the smuggler or they have an interest in Jabba’s reward. While Han was out of Boba’s possession, he struggled to prove himself to the Hutts as the bounty hunter he claimed he was. In a turn of events, Solo has become the catalyst for Boba Fett’s future rise to power in Star Wars #18, written by Charles Soule with art by Ramon Rosanas.

As Lady Qi’ra meets Leia, she reveals that she was behind Bokku’s attack on the Empire, in order to give the Rebellion a chance to recover the carbonite-frozen Han Solo. This decision had initiated the execution of the Hutts’ representatives, who would have theoretically taken over Jabba’s Palace after Return of the Jedi when Jabba was killed by Leia. In the trailer for Book of Boba Fett, the bounty hunter is taking over Jabba’s Palace as the galaxy’s newest crime lord. If Qi’ra hadn’t made this strategic call, the Hutts’ power would have remained in the family. Instead, Boba Fett will go onto claim the throne for himself.

Despite being indirect, Han Solo has become the reason for why Boba Fett will eventually take advantage of Jabba’s absence. Qi’ra might have been sincere in her intentions, but she ended up giving the bounty hunter responsible a massive inheritance. With the mess he’s caused, he’s the last persons he would want to repay in such a way. From one perspective, Boba Fett’s reputation was hurt by his loss of Han, but in another sense, his proven ability to beat out everyone else in the galaxy to retrieve the prize has put him back on top. From Crimson Dawn to the Rebels to the Empire, along with many bounty hunters, Boba practically earned his future authority as a crime lord.

In the grand scope of the saga, War of the Bounty Hunters might not appear to be a crucial story for fans to take in. However, for such a comedic misfire to put an entire series in motion, the crossover event has gained new significance. Boba Fett might never realize that he has Qi’ra and Han Solo to thank for his inheritance of Jabba’s Palace.
