Star Wars

has gradually revealed the identities of some of the students Luke Skywalker trained at his Jedi Academy on Ossus. Master Yoda never intended Luke Skywalker to be the last of the Jedi; rather, on his deathbed he charged Luke with ing on all that he had learned. Luke took this seriously, and spent some years searching the galaxy for lost fragments of Jedi knowledge. As seen in The Book of Boba Fett, Luke established a Jedi Temple on the planet Ossus just five years after Return of the Jedi.

Sadly, the story of Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order is a tragic one. Luke was unaware dark forces still lurked in the galaxy; he didn't realize Palpatine had survived his apparent death, and the Emperor feared the return of the Jedi. Still, Luke retains a strong legacy through his final student, who will go on to re-establish the Jedi Order ahead of another Star Wars movie. Here are all the confirmed Jedi Luke trained after the original trilogy.

8 Leia Organa Solo

Leia Organa training to be a Jedi in The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed Leia was Luke's first student as a Jedi Master. Leia initially decided to open herself up to the Force shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi, and advanced enough as a Jedi to construct her own lightsaber. Warnings from the Force persuaded Leia to give up on her training, though, because she believed continuing would risk the life of her son Ben. This wasn't the end for Leia as a Jedi, though, because Leia received additional training from Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force ghost, and occasionally heard Yoda giving her sage advice as well. The Force ghosts clearly taught Leia how to preserve her consciousness after death, because she was seen manifesting as a Force ghost alongside Luke after her death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

7 Grogu

Grogu with Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian.

A member of Yoda's mysterious species, Grogu appears to have been Luke Skywalker's second Jedi apprentice. A Jedi youngling who survived Order 66 thanks to the intervention of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, Grogu was kept safe through the Dark Times. The bounty hunter Din Djarin was hired to take Grogu to the Empire five years after Return of the Jedi, but relented, falling in love with the diminutive youngling. Din couldn't keep Grogu safe from the Empire, but fortunately Luke himself turned up to rescue Grogu. Yoda briefly ed Luke at his Jedi Temple on Ossus, but ultimately chose to leave the Jedi and return to Din Djarin.

6 Enyo

Introduced in Adam Christopher's excellent novel Shadow of the Sith, which is set 22 years after the Battle of Yavin, Enyo was a Twi'lek who trained younglings for Luke. Nothing is known of her backstory, but presumably she'd been at Luke's academy for some time given she was clearly a master trusted to train the youngest of Luke's students without supervision. It's reasonable to assume Enyo was sadly killed when the Jedi Temple was destroyed.

5 Ben Solo

Ben Solo - The Rise of Skywalker

Luke Skywalker's most tragic student was, of course, his nephew Ben Solo. Ben's potential became clear at an early, and Han and Leia eventually chose to send him to the Jedi Academy on Ossus. Ben was incredibly powerful, but Luke did not know he was being groomed for the dark side by Palpatine himself. Much of Ben's fall to the dark side remains a mystery, but eventually Luke became suspicious. On one fateful evening, the Jedi Master slipped into Ben's chambers and probed his mind, sensing a vast reservoir of the dark side. A moment's instinctive reaction was Luke's undoing, as he triggered his lightsaber. Ben awoke to see his uncle holding a lightsaber over him, and defended himself. This set in motion a heartbreaking chain of events that saw Ben Solo trapped by the dark side for years, until finally freed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

4 Voe

Star Wars Voe Attacks Ben Solo

One of three Jedi apprentices introduced in Charles Soule and Will Sliney's The Rise of Kylo Ren miniseries, Voe trained hard but always felt her abilities were inferior to those of the more gifted Ben Solo. She was offworld on the night Luke Skywalker confronted Ben, and she and two other apprentices returned to Ossus to find the Jedi Temple destroyed. Voe was eager to bring Ben to justice, but the pursuit proved unwise, with Ben killing her.

3 Hennix

Star Wars Hennix and Avar Kriss' Holocron

A Quarren Padawan who trained at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy on Ossus, Hennix tended to view the Force as a puzzle that needed to be unraveled. Flashbacks of his training have shown Hennix particularly interested in holocrons recording the teachings of Jedi from the High Republic Era. Like Voe, Hennix was offworld when the Jedi Temple was destroyed. Hennix was wounded during an initial confrontation with Ben Solo, and killed during a later battle.

2 Tai

Star Wars Tai

The third (and final) Padawan to survive the destruction of Luke's Jedi Temple on Ossus, Tai seems to have been one of Ben's closer friends. He initially refused to believe Ben was responsible for the temple's destruction, but circumstances escalated beyond his ability to influence them. Tai was killed by Ren, then leader of the Knights of Ren, and his death was the trigger for Ben to fully surrender to the power of the dark side.

1 Rey

Luke Skywalker's final student was Rey, the scavenger from Jakku whose potential he sensed - and feared. The destruction of Luke's Jedi Temple had caused Luke to retreat to the remote planet Ahch-To, but Rey found him there and encouraged him to return to the galaxy. Luke only gave Rey a little training before their arguments escalated to the point she left, but she took the ancient Jedi texts Luke had collected with her, meaning their secrets were not lost. Luke gave his life shortly after this, sacrificing himself to save the Resistance from the First Order. Still, both Luke and Leia ended Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as Force ghosts, meaning they can both continue to serve as advisers to Rey as the Star Wars saga continues.
