There are multiple possible endings to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but one ending is the best conclusion to the epic sci-fi adventure. BioWare's beloved RPG takes place thousands of years before the events of the Star Wars films, letting fans experience a truly unique spin on the saga's world and lore. The player's actions can lead to many different endings in Star Wars: KOTOR, with the best ending perfectly wrapping up Revan's journey.

While players can make countless choices as they explore the galaxy in KOTOR, there are only three major endings outside of a strange hidden dance routine ending. For players who embrace the Dark Side of the Force there is only a single ending, during which Revan kills various companions. Revan then kills Darth Malak to become the ultimate Sith Lord, leading evil forces against the Republic and taking Bastila Shan as their apprentice. However, Light Side players can instead save the galaxy by killing Malak and either defeating or redeeming Bastila. A third ending variant, available only to a male Light Side Revan, sees Bastila easily redeemed by love.

Each KOTOR ending reflects the player's actions throughout the game, but the Light Side ending following a romance with Bastila is easily the most personal conclusion to Revan's story. Some of Star Wars: KOTOR's coolest cut content involves an alternate ending based on a female Revan's romance with Carth, with these types of endings being particularly personal. Developing a relationship between Revan and Bastila over the course of the RPG experience makes it very satisfying when the love between the two characters easily sways her back to the Light Side. Bastila's major involvement in this Light Side ending is also befitting of her role as the game's secondary protagonist.

Star Wars: KOTOR Has A Canon Ending

Characters from Knights of the Old Republic stand together in classic Star Wars-style key art.

The Light Side ending between a male Revan and his beloved Bastila is also considered the canon ending of KOTOR, making it particularly poignant. While Star Wars: KOTOR 2 - The Sith Lords makes no official declarations about the canon ending of the first game, supplementary material has confirmed that Revan and Bastila officially embrace the light side and spend their lives together. Star Wars: KOTOR 2's ending mystery is tied up in a novel called The Old Republic: Revan, which portrays the life that Bastila and Revan spent together before the galactic hero's disappearance. The fact that KOTOR's romantic Light Side ending is canon makes it even more satisfying.

While all three endings to Knights of the Old Republic are interesting and react to players' choices, the Light Side ending where Revan romances Bastila is definitely the best outcome. This emotional conclusion to the RPG truly reflects the relationships that the player has built throughout the experience and is treated as canon by subsequent Star Wars: KOTOR stories. Embracing the Dark Side or killing Bastila for the good of the galaxy can be impactful, but saving the universe with the power of love will always be the best ending to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
