Sabine Wren's family tree in Star Wars spreads across Mandalorian history, and the fate of her family has been sealed in Ahsoka. The latest Star Wars series has seen Sabine pursue her Jedi training, which came as a surprise to many considering her rich Mandalorian heritage and deep ties to the planet. Sabine has since become an iconic Mandalorian character, though her identity as a Mandalorian and her role in the planet's history goes beyond even just her.

Sabine comes from Clan Wren, her family who has also had an influential role in the history of Mandalore. With many clans being named throughout Mandalore's history, Clan Wren is one of its most influential, from the nature of her family tree to the actions they've taken to fight for their planet time and time again. Though Sabine seems to no longer have interest in the planet nor the effort of its liberation and restoration in Ahsoka, her place in Mandalorian history as well as that of her clan is still very meaningful and interesting to explore.

Everything We Know About Clan Wren's Mandalorian History

Star War The CLone Wars Season 7 Bo-Katan Kryze Ursa Wren

Clan Wren's history goes back to the Clone Wars, during which Ursa Wren served under Lady Bo-Katan Kryze's Nite Owls as a member of Death Watch and a part of the Mandalore resistance. She also fought alongside her fellow Nite Owls, clone troopers, and even Ahsoka herself in the Siege of Mandalore, the effort that liberated the planet from the rule of Darth Maul. Clan Wren were vassals of Clan Vizsla and Ursa was Countess on Krownest, where she served the Empire during their occupation of Mandalore after the Clone Wars. The clan went on to be inspired by Sabine's own resistance of the Empire and helped to liberate the planet from Imperial rule, and their fate afterward was unknown.

Sabine's Family In Star Wars Rebels

Clan Wren discusses plans in Star Wars Rebels season 4 episode 2

Ursa Wren is Sabine's mother, from which the name of Clan Wren is derived. Ursa is the lead warrior of the family, as her history serving Mandalore is rich, and her influence is undisputed. Sabine's father, Alrich Wren, isn't a warrior, but instead pursues his ion for art. Sabine gets her love of and talent for art from him, and he also adopted Ursa's last name out of respect for her station. Tristan, Sabine's brother, continued to serve Clan Wren during the Imperial occupation even after Sabine fled to Star Wars Rebels' Ghost crew and the Rebellion. He was an Imperial Super Commando under Governor Gar Saxon's command until Sabine's words inspired both him and the rest of their clan to fight against the Empire.

Sabine's Family Died In The Purge Of Mandalore

Clan Wren makes it through the destruction of Mandalorians in Star Wars Rebels

Unfortunately, it's been revealed in Ahsoka episode 4 that Sabine's family didn't survive the Purge of Mandalore. The planet and its people were laid to waste in the Night of a Thousand Tears, a brutal attack led by Moff Gideon to destroy the Mandalorians and their world once and for all. Clan Wren must have been helping their ally Bo-Katan in defending the planet the best they could before their ruler was forced to surrender and Moff Gideon betrayed their ceasefire. It would be an honorable way for them to meet their fate, but it also confirms why Sabine has chosen not to return to Mandalore nor to help the liberation of the planet as seen in The Mandalorian season 3.

Baylan Skoll confirmed the fate of Sabine's family in Ahsoka episode 4 as a means of manipulating her to give him the map to Grand iral Thrawn, though interestingly enough, he also reminded Sabine that she blames their fate on Ahsoka for not trusting her. This has implied that Sabine's master may have attributed the Padawan's instincts about something bad happening to her planet and people to her attachments, rather than actually believing her. While Ahsoka isn't to blame for the Purge of Mandalore, it's clear that Sabine holds resentment for her master not letting her help her family, and Ahsoka could reveal this was the catalyst that fractured their relationship as seen at the beginning of the series.
