Shmi was eventually freed and married moisture farmer Cliegg Lars. She would die after being taken by Tuskan Raiders during Star Wars Episode II — Attack of the Clones, though she appeared as an apparition to Anakin in an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Anakin Skywalker may be the most iconic character on this list, purely because of the journey he went on throughout his life. Conceived by the will of the Force, the Chosen One lived as a slave on Tatooine until he was nine years old. After being freed by Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin became the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi following Qui-Gon’s death. Anakin completed his Jedi training under Kenobi's supervision and secretly married Senator Pé Amidala at the end of Attack of the Clones.

Anakin fell to the dark side during Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, fatally injuring his beloved Pé - who died during childbirth. Anakin spent the next 23 years living as Darth Vader, the Sith apprentice to Emperor Palpatine. He was ultimately redeemed by his son Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi, which saw Anakin become a Force Ghost - symbolic of his redemption. Anakin was last seen in Ahsoka’s season 1 finale, though it’s not clear if he will appear in season 2.

Born

The former Queen of Naboo became the planet's senator before the events of Attack of the Clones. Pé was an excellent leader who fought for peace and equality throughout the galaxy. It’s likely that had she not died during childbirth, she would have gone on to be an integral part of the Rebel Alliance, alongside her friends Bail Organa and Mon Mothma

Following Anakin’s turn to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith, Pé lost the will to live and died shortly after giving birth to her twins, Luke and Leia. Though Pé would never get to see her children grow up, her memory continued through people like Bail Organa, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and others who knew the senator well. Her last words - insistence there was still good in her husband - proved prophetic.

Anakin and Pé's twins were separated at birth by Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi; Luke was sent to live on Tatooine with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Leaving Tatooine in the first Star Wars movie, Luke gradually discovered his heritage and focused his attention on redeeming his father. He proved successful, inspiring the good within Anakin that Pé had insiste was there all along.

Luke’s connection with his father was important, but it was his friendship and camaraderie he found with his long-lost twin sister, Leia Organa that was Luke’s driving force in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. After failing to rebuild the Jedi Order, Luke went into hiding on the planet Ahch-To, exiling himself after his failure. Luke died after Force projecting himself on Crait, giving the Resistance time to escape by dueling his nephew Kylo Ren.

19BBY

The second twin of Anakin Skywalker and Pé Amidala, Princess Leia Organa was adopted by Bail Organa and his wife Breha. Leia grew up happily as part of the Alderaanian royal family, though she rarely left the planet before the age of ten. Leia was kidnapped when she was ten in a plot meant to draw out Obi-Wan Kenobi. This experience of meeting rebels was likely the moment her future as a leader of the Rebel Alliance and later the Resistance began. Leia worked as a junior member of the Imperial Senate when she was taken hostage by Darth Vader and Moff Tarkin.

Following the victory of the Rebel Alliance in the original Star Wars trilogy, Leia married Han Solo and the pair had a son Ben in 5 ABY, just after the civil war officially ended. Leia's political career spanned decades, and she served as leader of the New Republic Defense Council. After Leia’s parentage and connection to Darth Vader was made public, Leia left the New Republic Senate and formed the Resistance. Leia died in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker after channeling her own life force into her son, which helped Rey heal him.

The legendary smuggler and captain of the Millenium Falcon married into the Skywalker family after falling in love with Leia Organa. A Corellian smuggler, Han traditionally traveled with the Wookiee Chewbacca; he worked as a smuggler for Jabba the Hutt until meeting Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in a cantina on Tatooine. Han was a reluctant hero and helped Luke blow up the first Death Star.

Han and Leia wed shortly after Return of the Jedi, and had a son together - Ben. Ben’s fall to the dark side drove a wedge between Han and Leia, eventually leading Han and Chewbacca to return to smuggling. He died in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, killed by his own son, although Han's memory would ultimately help redeem Kylo Ren.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Always strong in the Force, Ben Solo went to learn the Jedi ways from Luke Skywalker when he was a teenager. Seduced to the dark side by Palpatine's manipulations, Ben took up the name Kylo Ren, and worked as one of Supreme Leader Snoke's greatest agents - until he finally killed him, claiming the title of Supreme Leader for himself. Kylo Ren was redeemed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker thanks to the influence of Rey, with whom he shared a Force Dyad.

Ben sadly died in The Rise of Skywalker, giving his life to use Force heal and save Rey's life. Ben Solo was the last of the Skywalker family tree, and as he had no children, the line ended with him. Rey herself, however, has claimed it - with the Force Ghosts of Luke and Leia signifying their approval.

In Star Wars family is one of the biggest themes, whether that be the family someone is born into, or the family found along the way. No Star Wars family is quite as famous as the Skywalkers and despite having no living , the name is being carried on by Rey who adopted it at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Despite Rey not being a Skywalker by blood, each member of the Skywalker family she met cared for her and mentored her in one way or another, making her Star Wars future something to look forward to.
