Over the past four decades, Star Wars has become a sort of modern epic tale that hundreds of years from now will be this generation's Illiad. It truly is a brilliant story with an expanded universe filled with endless amounts of characters with untold stories that have yet to be explored.

That said, there are a few things about the main cast of Star Wars that has never been explained. One of the most mysterious of these characters is Yoda, who sits atop the Jedi Council. Few, if any of the Jedi who know him best, know his backstory. For all his strengths and accomplishments, it has been his failures that have defined his legacy.

Why Did He Assign Ahsoka Tano To Be Anakin's Apprentice?

Why did he assign ahsoka tano to be anakins apprentice Cropped (1) (1)

With all the talk about Anakin needing to let go of emotional connections, it seemed like a bad idea for Yoda to assign him a padawan that he could get emotionally attached to. Anakin's attachment with Ahsoka grew over the Clone Wars and when she was accused by the Jedi of being a traitor it only furthered his displeasure with the order. Anakin grew up with attachments before ing the order, attachments were all he knew. So, it seems like a terrible idea to teach him how to free himself from attachments by giving him another attachment.

Why Is Yoda's Past So Murky?

why is yoda's past so murky Cropped (1) (1)

For a Jedi so beloved as Yoda, no one seems to be a tad bit interested in where he came from, who trained him and how old he really is? In fact, the Jedi  know more about the beginnings of Darth Sidious than they know about a Jedi Master who sits on the Jedi Council. What is known of him is that he is almost a thousand years old and was an adult by the time he was trained by the order. He also brought with him a human companion, but the human's name is forever lost.

How Did He Not Sense Darth Sidious?

How did he not sense darth sidious Cropped (1) (1)

For a Jedi who could sense terrible acts being committed in a galaxy hundreds of light-years away, he was oblivious to Palpatine's evil presence even when in the same room with him. It is even shown in Cartoon Network's Clone Wars that someone like Darth Maul could sense his master's presence a planet away and for all Maul's strengths, he paled in comparison to Yoda.

Possible explanations are that the force blinded him to Palpatine or maybe one had to know what to look for as in Maul's case. Whatever the explanation is, it has yet to be explored.

If Yoda Noticed The Conflict In Anakin, Why Didn't He Do Something About It?

If yoda noticed the conflict in anakin why didn't he do something about it Cropped (1) (1)

There was always an evil inside Anakin Skywalker that everyone around him knew existed but, unfortunately, none tried to control. Yoda could sense the conflict inside the young Jedi and even confronted him about the dangers of the dark side, yet, even when Anakin's anger had boiled over, Yoda chose not to intervene, allowing fate to decide Anakin's future. It almost seems like Yoda set Anakin up for failure by placing him as Palpatine's personal bodyguard even though he knew firsthand that Palpatine was spreading lies and wicked rumors about the Jedi Order.

Why Was Yoda's Loyalty Never Questioned?

Why was Yoda's loyalty never questioned Cropped (1) (1)

When Jedi go rogue, it is usually a flaw in that particular Jedi's training or in his master's beliefs that have carried down to the apprentice. The Jedi Council questioned Anakin's adherence to the Jedi way when Ahsoka showed hints of straying from the path of light. Even Obi Wan Kenobi was chastised a few times by the council because of Anakin's dark side tendencies. Yet, Yoda's loyalty or methods never seemed to be questioned even after Dooku, Yoda's former apprentice and greatest pupil went rogue. Yoda's reputation remained unblemished as his apprentice slaughtered millions.

Why Didn't Yoda Kill Palpatine When He Had The Chance?

Why didn't yoda kill palpatine when he had the chance Cropped (1) (1)

Yoda is the only person throughout the current Star Wars canon that was strong enough to defeat Palpatine on his own. After sending Obi Wan Kenobi to take down the apprentice, Yoda's task was to take out the master. During the battle it was clear the two were on equal grounds.

Yet, for some reason after falling from the top of the senate chambers, Yoda fled the scene. Did he have a premonition of his own death or did the force tell him that Anakin was the one who was destined to bring down Palpatine?

Why Didn't Yoda Assist The Rebel Alliance?

One of the more perplexing things about Yoda was why he went off into self-imposed exile after the fall of the Republic to Palpatine. It wasn't as though the Jedi were completely gone as a few remained for Vader to hunt. Yet, not one time did Yoda help the rebel senators or any of the resistance movement against the Empire's grasp. Some might say that he was waiting for Luke and that is why he was absent from the fight but Yoda was far from all-knowing, making it far-fetched to believe this could be his reason for remaining neutral.

Why Didn't Yoda Confront Vader Himself?

It is one thing to go into self-imposed exile but it is another to just allow Darth Vader to slaughter the remaining Jedi. Yoda was by far the greatest of the Jedi and could have wiped the floor with Darth Vader. Yet, for some unknown reason, he meditated, as he felt the lives of Jedi's across the galaxy being snuffed out by the Dark Lord of The Sith. Even if he felt Darth Vader's death would not bring an end to Palpatine's Jedi genocide, it has to be believed it would have slowed it down saving hundreds of lives.

Yoda's Adherence To The Jedi Code Led To The Jedi's Downfall

Yoda's adherance to jedi code led to their downfall Cropped (1) (1)

Yoda was a firm believer in the old Jedi ways, believing that attachments could lead one down the path to the dark side. Sadly, he failed to understand that it was the Jedi's detachment to this very emotion that directly created Anakin Skywalker in the first place.

In a way, the Jedi Order had become a cult that needed to brainwash children into believing in nothing but the Jedi Code. Anakin wasn't evil because of his attachments; he became evil because as a human, he needed those attachments to thrive. Yoda prevented this from happening, thus creating Darth Vader.

Yoda Gives Terrible Advice

Yoda Gives terrible advice Cropped (1) (1)

Even after the fall of the Jedi Order and the Republic, Yoda was still steadfast in his old ways. His time on Dagobah had taught him nothing and he was still intent on teaching Luke the same dogma that brought down the Jedi Order all those years ago. When Luke discovered his friends were in danger, he wanted to help, while Yoda wanted him to ignore his attachments and continue his training. Like Anakin before him, Luke was not persuaded by the Jedi Code, his attachments to his friends gave him the power to overcome the dark side's temptations.
