Many of the side quests in Starfield offer branching choices that could lead to different rewards, including the "Alternating Currents" mission you receive when traveling through the seedy underworld of New Atlantis. The decisions here boil down to who you can trust when it comes to the organizations on this seemingly civilized planet. You'll have to explore plenty of areas of the city, which can be tricky to navigate.

The NPC Louisa Reyez gives you this mission right after you complete the "Tapping the Grid" side quest earlier in The Well of New Atlantis. After your previous efforts, there are still small tasks to complete involving the Trade Authority group whose main facility in the galaxy happens to be here on the planet Jemison. Discretion is the key going forward here, so it might be best for your character to have Stealth skills unlocked.

Any character can already have some Stealth abilities unlocked for their build by selecting a specific background during the introduction.

Meet Louisa at the Trade Authority Building

The mission begins by talking to Louisa outside the Trade Authority building in The Well, where she is too nervous to go in by herself. The person operating the front desk, Zoe, doesn't offer any kind words as Louisa wishes to confront the organization for the power drains you discovered in the last quest. Turns out the Trade Authority were actually not the culprits, leading to further investigations in Starfield.

From here, you have to find several Junction Boxes scattered throughout New Atlantis, with the first being found close to Kay's House. This place is a shop with vendors that can sell Aid items to cure the many status effects. Go left from Kay's House until you reach the Med Bay, then go left again before climbing up a set of stairs until you reach another staircase to your immediate right at the top.

Should You Flip the Junction Box of Zoe or Louisa?

The Junction Box you've been looking for can be seen at the top of the stairs, but you are unable to activate it right away. Take the door to your left to find a metal walkway leading around the perimeter of this section of The Well in Starfield. Follow this path until you see a broken section to the right that you have to jump across in order to reach a door leading to a functional Junction Box that Zoe was talking about.

Those who have the Boost Pack skill from the Tech tree for their character can use special thrusters to leap up onto the walkway near the top of The Well to save a lot of time walking through the lower sections of New Atlantis.

This is where the first major choice of this mission is presented, to either locate another Junction Box that Zoe suggests or one that Louisa recommends. Honestly, it doesn't matter which Box you choose, so just follow your quest marker in Starfield to whichever is more convenient for you. You may want to just go back to the on top of the stairs past Kay's House again since it is much closer to your location.

Find the Last Boxes Near Athena Towers

Once you activate one of the two Junction Boxes in The Well, Zoe will mention how the last device is on the surface of New Atlantis' Residential District. Use the different fast travel railways to reach this area, while maybe stopping by some shops to purchase an item or two while you're there. The best vendors in Starfield are often in sprawling cities such as New Atlantis, with exclusive weapons or gear that could help later in the mission.

Go towards Athena Towers and its outdoor area, with Junction Box 101F located to the left of the main doors of the building. Marked in red and gray, you should see it fairly easily as you travel around the district. After activating this Box, you need to go inside Athena Towers and up the elevator to find a locked door that you have to break open with a Digipick in Starfield that your character hopefully has on them.

The lock-picking mini-game here is thankfully only labeled a Novice difficulty security level, making it very easy compared to other places you could break and enter. You are able to purchase all the Digipicks you might need from the vendors within New Atlantis.

This will take you to an apartment in Starfield littered with parts that shed light on the mysterious third party responsible for the power drains in New Atlantis. Access an unauthorized computer right across from this room's door to collect evidence by ing the files in the system to an external device. This begins that last and most important decision from the mission: giving the acquired info to Zoe or Louisa.

Should You Give the Evidence to Zoe or Louisa?

Both Zoe and Louisa will offer your character a healthy sum of money for handing over the files from the Athena Towers room, but both offer the same amount of 2,000 Credits. This makes the choice here come down to who you trust more. While Zoe has more authoritative ties with the Trade Authority, Louisa has been appreciative of your help before, so this really boils down to which character you prefer in Starfield.

No matter what choice you make, your mission marker will show both parties in the Trade Authority building once again. Unlike later decisions made between characters found later in the game, no conflict or enemies in Starfield will come from you picking one side over another. Zoe and Louisa will report the information to MAST, ending the quest without you ever having to fight anyone along the way.

Your character will gain a good amount of XP for finishing the mission along with the Credits paid by Zoe or Louisa. For those still curious about who has been draining power after the events of the "Alternating Currents" quest, stay in with Louisa after your choices and rewards in Starfield.
