Space Explorers in Starfield require money to upgrade gear, weapons, or ships. Wanting to play fair can only go so far until it seems like there is more to do in the open world of space. If it's morally acceptable in the player's eyes, nothing is impossible on the way to becoming a millionaire.

It is important to note that when making a lot of Credits in Starfield, traits do come into play. Therefore, consider investing in a character's Commerce trait to decrease the price of bought items and increase profits when selling. Outpost Management obviously is also handy as it increases the efficiency when making money from Outposts. Finally, when it comes to being a pirate the Deception skill is important in making people pay the main character off faster for raids and other stolen goods.

5 Loot, Steal, and Sell Valuable Items

Starfield has a loot system involving different areas, chests, and individual ships. The best areas for looting could be the Outposts or Abandoned Bases on random planets, while pickpocketing typically should be done in big cities. Think realistically about where to find certain items, expensive-looking areas probably have more expensive loot, and places like med bays would contain more medical items.

When locating shops to sell stolen items make sure to find a "less reputable buyer" such as the Trade Authority which is considered to be an underground market of many big cities.

Players should pay mind to the amount of inventory space and weight they can carry.

4 Raid and Steal Ships

When fights break out in open space, the player can raid different ships for their own gain. To start this process, disable the desired ship, preferably with the Targeting Control Systems taking down their engines and weapons. Get closer and begin to prepare boarding the ship with powerful shotguns and weapons.

According to YouTuber ZiggyD, the crew will typically be hiding in the cockpit so take cover and get ready for a fight. Once cleared, you can loot the captain's locker and cargo hold for anything valuable. These ships can then be taken to a port to be ed in the player's own name. It is also recommended to look for valuable parts from the old ship to sell as well.

Be warned, when targeting ships, the space around bigger cities will have more security to deal with.

3 Building an Outpost

An Outpost in Starfield

One of the less action-based ways of making money in Starfield is through building an Outpost. It involves creating specially tailored buildings, mining materials, and selling to vendors. This method brings in a continuous source of easy money in a very ive way.

Scan a preferred planet to place an Outpost Beacon on materials such as titanium, lead, sealant, and more. There is a limit to building outposts in Starfield starting at eight locations but this can be increased with the Planetary Habitation skill. Ideally, the best planets to start an outpost also need to be habitable, especially if a player is just starting their space journey. Build some basic extractors and storage units, assign a few crew and you'll be on your way to making some easy money

2 Mission Boards

In places where there are Factions in Starfield consider taking up a job on the Mission Board. A kiosk offering different quests is given with a price attached to them. It is recommended in the early game to take on smaller quests with simpler tasks like destroying a ship or surveying specific lifeforms or plants.

Alternatively, if a player decides to take on all of them at once, prioritize where and in what order they can be done for more time efficiency.

1 Carry and Sell Contraband

High risk for a high reward, this method of money-making involves hiding and selling contraband on different planets with the local Trade Authority. As you pillage ships, steal, and complete missions in Starfield you might come across some contraband. Typically they will be held in suspicious-looking chests, or locked behind doors.

The contents of contraband can be anything from human organs, drugs, stolen art, or even famous manifests and are indicated in the player's inventory with a yellow marker. You will also need a Shielded Cargo hold on your ship to get past any major city scanners or have some friends in the Crimson Fleet who are happy to take "hot" items. It certainly isn't easy to find contraband, so this method, although it has a high payoff, is very risky and rare to invest in.
